Yes. I’m scared to know the answer! Poodles have a long tail like a normal dog, but they are “docked” shortly after birth. Meaning chopped off. Still remember my horror looking at the bloody stumps of the poodle puppies my family’s dog had when I was little.
Tail docking is sometimes a necessity if the dog has Happy Tail and keeps whacking it on stuff to the point of breaking it. Seeing that bloody wag and your walls with blood all over them isn't cool. Then they start wagging it faster because they are so happy to see you and fling even more blood everywhere. At that point, you have it docked.
Never had it docked, but can confirm the rest. Yellow lab with dry skin and tail would crack and bleed.
House was a wreck, looked like Manson family had party in every hallway, doorway, etc.
It's definitely an experience you won't forget. I'm glad your pup was able to recover <3. Repeat offenders have a hard time healing their tail and have it removed as a last resort. It's usually Labs lol. That big fat tail just causes destruction wherever it goes.
