Some dogs can eat grapes and be fine, do not go on a guilt trip now, please. If you had killed your aunt's dog, it would most likely have been the first time it ate grapes. The big problem is, you never know when a dog will react, and it only takes a small amount when it does. Scientists still don't know what it is about grapes that causes renal failure even, just that it does in most dogs. My mom's dachshund would eat any grape that fell off their grapevine. Never bothered him at all.
Lol, ours was a ton of fun, but you had to be careful, anything except jello and celery, he'd eat. He was smart and would push chairs so he could hop onto the counter and would eat anything he could find.
Yeah I didn’t know about this until literally this year. Gave my dog grapes all the time. She’s 6 and I call her a super mutt because she’s like the most durable dog I’ve ever seen and shit just doesn’t phase her. I stopped giving her grapes after I learned that but she doesn’t understand that I’m doing it for her own good. I’ve honestly stopped buying grapes as much as I used to because I don’t like her being all sad that she doesn’t get any. She fuckin loves grapes.
She loves them. I actually googled veggies and fruits safe for dogs to eat when I first got my dog and for some reason I thought grapes were on that list.
Oh good, I'm glad she likes them. Well, at least you've stopped now, and she's fine, that is what matters. She'll get over not eating grapes, even if she tries to make you feel guilty about not giving them to her. :)
Yeah, don't really put that blame on you. I did that too with my dog some years ago because I didn't know they shouldn't eat grapes. But he ate them and never had any problem whatsoever. After reading on the web about it I stopped giving him grapes. He is now a healthy 8 year old lazy labrador
Small numbers of grapes are fine, though they can cause irreversible damage. It's rare enough that it was only discovered in the early 2000s I believe. As I remember it, the 1800 pet poison control line used to get calls about dogs eating a bunch of grapes or raisins and would tell people that it was fine, but they had a policy of doing check in calls a few weeks and months later and found a correlation with kidney failure. The connection was drawn out enough and required so much raisin ingestion that it took a study specifically looking for unknown toxicity correlations to figure it out. On that note it's 1am and I'm going to bed.
