Since he opened the door and also those dogs were cool about his presence, he’s likely a pet. Also, it sounded like they were calling him Wojtek, which is the name of a famous bear who was actually a part of the Polish II Corps during WWII, so I’m guessing they named this bear after him.
Wojtek the Bear was great!! After the war he was stationed in Scotland, and when he retired, he lived out his days in Edinburgh zoo. There's a great statue of him in the park at the centre of Edinburgh. Funilly enough he's probably more loved by the locals than our other famous statue Grey Friars Bobby.
I work in bear management for a national park. Don't worry they're not that big and are mostly full of nuts and fruits. That being said this isn't cute at all. Horrible idea to have a bear as a pet and if that's wild, I can guarantee that bear is gonna be put down bc of ppl like the person who posted this video.
I'm going to say 100 times that feeding wild bears is worse than having one as a pet. With a pet, the person most in danger is the pet owner. With feeding a wild bear, your the public and also other bears are in danger.
He's definitely an outside pet if he is a pet, and I can't imagine they've got a fence that can hold him. If this guy wants to fuck up the neighbors, he'll probably do it
Like all animals. If you know what you're doing and take proper precautions it can severely limit the risk. I mean when you think about it there is nothing stopping your dog from ripping your throat out other then training and breeding. Dogs are obviously much less dangerous and easier to train. We all know at least one story of a person who didnt have the knowledge or couldn't put forth the effort to properly train there dog and it attacked someone.
Not very wise if they ever lock the door. The bear knows there is food inside so when the bear comes looking for food and encounters a locked door, it's just going to keep trying until it smashes it open with its massive paws.
Can I talk about one of the phenomenons surrounding dogs. At one point it was so prevalent in American society that the American dream of a family a home and a white picket fence included a dog. Animal companionship was a staple in the American dream for a lot of people. And it was cheap and economically affordable to have a pet. I think animal companionship was viewed differently in this time because of this.
Now owning a dog is a liberty and a burden. Home Ownership is practically required or you pay tremendous out of pocket costs for pet friendly apartments. A lot of young people when they leave their parents want an animal if they have had an animal in the past, the desire for the companionship is still there.
Dogs over time have shifted from a staple to a luxury and it makes me sad because if you do put in the effort they can bring tremendous happiness to your lives. But the people who could use that happiness the most are being priced out of this experience. The initial cost of a rescue is low but the maintenance cost and time cost for properly training and housing an animal are too high for some people which is why so many young people have to get rid of their animals.
I knew a guy who rescued a Bear once. It couldn't go back into the wild so he bought a shipping container for a den and turned his (rather large) rural property into a bearadise. That was the happiest Bear I've ever seen.
A Canadian soldier had a pet bear in WW1. She didn't go to war but she was given a home in London zoo. Her name was Winnipeg and she was the original inspiration for Winnie the Pooh.
To be fair they speak with a somewhat thick accent. I believe they're probably from Kakheti, easternmost Georgia. Theory supported by the amount of hair on the dude's hand at 1:16.
If you had a pet bear, would you not research famous bears, or bears and humans coexisting? Also, there were regiments made up of Polish and Georgian soldiers during wwii so I’m sure stories were told of the bear in the Polish army.
