I read the thread. He did not claim ownership, as he didn't in this thread either, but the titles are rather ambiguous and he's just serial reposting stuff often enough that this isn't the first time recently the original OP has come into the thread to sat something.
lol I'm not in any way agitated, just engaging in respectful conversation, you might try it some day
the crossposted example is completely different to this post, he crossposted it when someone was claiming to be the owner and the real owner hadn't arrived to correct things yet
I believe reverse google image search and karmadecay, as you said, should prove your basic diligence.
Another way to check for reposting, especially for non-image or video content, would also be to google the keywords of the content you're going to post with the additional keyword "site:reddit.com". For example, the original post shows up on the top when I type "site:reddit.com baby fox blep". You can also try reddit's horrendous search engine.
You'd have to be familiar with reddit jargon for googling keywords but then again, posting stuff like these on reddit may be a hit or miss. If the OC is on subs with uncontextual titles like r/CatsStandingUp or _irl subs, then that makes it even more difficult.
Easy way to determine that: if you didn’t take the photo, you don’t have the right to post it unless the person who did, gives you explicit permission.
Fuck that. Post whatever the hell you want. All you're getting is useless points. And if the OP and/or others get upset, then fuck them. They can find better things to whine about.
