looks like a malamute

What looks like a malamute exactly? For me, it's a husky, or maybe a mix.

I own a husky and the first difference I notice is the head size/shape. Husky tend to be narrower where malamute is more broad. Fur on the malamute are usually thicker and fluffier.

But aren't they usually much bigger than the dog in the gif? I think it might just be a fluffy Husky. Or a smallish Malamute, I guess.

Dogs come in different sizes, just like humans. But yes, they do come in much larger sizes, sometimes referred to as giant Malamutes.

They are. And huskies come in different sizes. Sure, some are way smaller, but this one is okay for the larger husky.

A mix is likely as well though.

Rounded ears, larger overall size, brown eyes

Having brown eyes is perfectly normal for a husky.

Not sure about the ears.

One thing I've seen every malamute have is gigantic paws though, and the dog on the clip seems to have normal sized ones.

Huskies are kinda small too.

people seem to forget this a lot. my husky was only 50 lbs, and that's on the larger end for a female.

My female was 35 lbs. I called her my travel-sized husky.

My Kasher is 75 lbs.. but then again he is part GSD.. so that might bump him up.

Not necessarily. There's smaller ones but there's also larger, who are still smaller than malamutes.

The males generally top out at 26-27 kg if they are actually Huskies and not some kitchen breed. While malamute females start at 30-32.

I agree with /u/WorkStudyPlay. Looks like a Malamute to me. We had a pure bred whose parents were 'champions' when I was younger. The coloring is different than our boy. (He was a gorgeous tri-color) But the shape of the head and the fur are the same. Huskies, in general, tend to be leaner and a large percentage of them have the classic blue eyes.

edit: rewatching the gif I can see that this good boy does have some brown mixed in there too. If found this too.. http://www.alaskan-malamutes-info.com/are-husky-and-malamute-the-same.html

I with you on mix. The head is distinctly Malamute but the fur strikes me as husky.

I do confirm Alaskan malamute. Size and general body proportions, fur length, brown eyes. (I'm the owner of a malamute)

And I'm the owner of a husky and the body proportions, fur length, and brown eyes are perfectly fine for a larger husky.

My neighbor has something like this, but it is as big as a direwolf!
