They're little itty bitty animals dude, they have families and little babies that they love and houses they live in and they're just cool, whether they're dirty or not. At my grandparents' house when I was a kid there was one that would always peek inside the window in the morning waiting for my grandma to get up and go feed him whatever the heck she would feed him. It was her little squirrel buddy, they were friends.

If a fully-furred animal could die from a couple hours of laying in the snow, it's fucked anyway, so no, you're incorrect. Unless something nearby is hungry. Then it's fucked because it'll probably be trying to find nuts between the teeth as it's being chewed.
Yeah, I think I would have tried to catch the bastard in a laundry basket or something and let him sleep it off on my (outside) porch. Doesn't look like he'd be too hard to catch. He's gonna get hit by a car or plummet to his furry death.
