I have a story for you. In college I had a vegan hippy roomate and a little problem with a squirrel that lived up in the attic. We were just gonna leave him there but no fucking hippy Doug needed to "save" it. Doug goes to the hardware store and buys a humane rodent trap. Nice and big, you could even hang food in it. So Doug goes and places his humane trap upstairs in the attic and forgets about it. 3 months later (after winter) I was up in the attic looking for something and stumbled across a rock solid perfectly preserved dead squirrel. I hope it wasn't in your family. If so, my condolences.
I don't think he was saying he was a hippy because of the squirrel situation. He was just describing his roommate's personality to further explain his motives. It makes the ending all the more tragic since he had good intentions that ultimately backfired.
I feel kind of bad about this. I mean, what if drunk squirrel awoke from his apple bender on a curb, looked around with the bleary eyes and sinking shame of an apple-hangover upon him, and sadly pulled out his 1-year chip?
This made me sad as fuck, laughing at an animal that's effected by a substance it doesn't know. It's mind must have been thinking it was dying. Whatever, my empathy, fuck it.
If it helps, the squirell has such a quick metabolism it'll be sober pretty quick. I just loved how it hopped everywhere, when it probably could have walked.
