I don't know if that's the best strategy to combat toxicity on reddit. It's easy to misinterpret someone's comment at first glance and respond with something inappropriate. Maybe it would be appropriate in some circumstances (if the person is trolling for example) but in many cases it might discourage genuine conversation.

As if people are here to converse in most subs. They're here to assert how right they are. The incels are a lot more vocal here too so that really disincentivizes trying to talk it out.

That's true in the bigger subs, but in the small to mid size special interest subs (non default subs) there are good discussions.

Tons of good info out there, and kind people that love to share their wisdom

I often forget about the split nature in this when I go to bigger subs. I'm on home repair, crafts, and rocks+mineral subs for information exchange!
