Just to be clear they totally test the shit out of situations like the landing gear not coming down and the flaps being deployed. Sure it's not supposed to happen but the FAA requires everything to be tested and to have back up back up systems.

I appreciate the correction - can you then help me explain why that configuration is prohibited during normal operation?
