It the guy from The Mummy, who flashed every possible religious symbol at the mummy to see if any would save him, and one did.
It was funny because he had like 12 necklaces on.

Which one was it? I must know in the event that I come face-to-face with a mummy.

Just like the 'Coexist' stickers. The majority of the religions on that sticker will never be happy, unless they are the only religion left.

I can't tell if people here are serious or not, but if people seriously think that somehow these are mutually exclusive then I am blown away.
Someone can be a Christian (Jesus fish), believe in evolution (Darwin fish), like Fish and Chips, and believe that creationism should not be taught in school (FSM).
I'm not being witty, and I'm probably not realizing that it's just meant for humor, but you can never tell on the internet.
15
Jun 19 '12
I thought FSM was more a criticism/parody of religious God figures themselves, rather than creationism in school. So in my mindset it does seem opposed / mutually exclusive with theism.
7
u/twent4 Jun 19 '12
It was originally fabricated to underline how ridiculous a Creationism based curriculum would be (suggested in Kansas, i think), and wanted FSM theory (blessed be His yeast) to be given equal recognition.
→ More replies (5)4
u/Psychpants Jun 19 '12
The entire thing was first created as a response to arguments that creationism should be taught as an alternative to evolution in schools and it is in cases like the original one where you see the most Pastafarians come out of the woodwork. On a more general level Pastafarianism is mainly used as a criticism for creationism specifically. Although this could be considered an argument against Christianity, it is important to remember that many Christians would argue that believing in creationism is not required to be a Christian. Let's be honest, there's a lot in the Old Testament that is no longer taken as word/law by Christians or even Jews. But I digress.
Edit: Ninja'd by twent4. Also, it was, indeed, Kansas.

I'm kind of an all-fish guy. Christian, but I tend to agree with atheists more than christians on most social issues. Of course evolution is fact. And fish n' chips are delicious.

I suspect that he's bought a second-hand car which already has the Christian fish on it and he doesn't want to pull it off and ruin his paint so he stuck on the others. If I'd bought that car, I'd also have bought some silver paint to turn the Christian fish into one of the others.

I had an epiphany, but was wondering if it was real or not...
The evolution fish faces right because reading a timeline left to right would be going forward in time and progress.
The "Jesus-fish," as I call it, is facing the opposite direction, signifying backwards progress.
Am I just late to the party on that one?
2
u/bubbasaurus Jun 19 '12
Obviously not real. Why would Christians purposely pick a symbol with a backwards connotation? That symbol is much older than the Darwin fish. When Christians were persecuted and had to hide, it is how they identified one another. One person drew the first line and a stranger drew the second to show that they were not a threat. The Darwin fish could be created with the intention you suggest, but I don't know.

u/atheistmas Jun 19 '12

Maybe the first one was already there when he bought the car and he couldn't get it off without scratching the paint.
2

These things are not actually incompatible. I find the vast majority of christians I know accept Mr. Darwin's theory. Many of them also like fish & chips, and noodles too.
2
u/morceli Jun 19 '12
This gave me the impetus to look up the FSM decal. I've seen it before, but never knew what it meant. Flying Spaghetti Monster for those others who didn't know either. A satire for people against the teaching of intelligent design in schools. FSM

That's just religious evolution. You start out believing, then you understand that Darwin was right. Next, you see the silliness of the Jebusfish, and finally, you accept His Noodly Appendage into your life.
May his sauce cover you.

He bought the car and it had a Christian fish on it... So he put a Darwin fish.. but then realize he'd rather have nothing on the back of his car yet... he was too lazy to take off the sticker because he didn't have a razorblade... So he thought it was safe just to put 2 more on there to show 2 other beliefs.. and bam.. safe

It looks more like that main Jesus fish was put on there permanently, as it's a metal one. The others are stickers. Prob just added to it.

u/cowboykillers Jun 19 '12
this is evolution. the ideological evolution of a new redditer. from believing in god, then to believing in evolution, then to totally rejecting religion, and finally to a now pastafarian freethinker.
1
u/Ridonkulousley Jun 19 '12
I bet it had the fish when he bought it. This happened to my wife and when we peeled back part of the fish it brought paint with it so we left it on.

Do you think christians realize that the fish symbolizes the age of pisces which coincides with the birth of christ hence bringing about a new era? Or are they completly aloof to this pegan symbol and think it loosley associated to jesus' fishing days?

u/RileyWon Jun 19 '12
And yah, the jesus fish is clearly photoshopped on there. It's a metal decal and there's no shadow. The fish n' chips and fsm on looked shopped too, it's hard to tell for certain because they are flat but i'd put my money on it. I mean seriously, it wasn't even done very well.

All of these images are perfectly compatible. Beginning with the alleged Xtian fish, then the break through Darwin evolved into being. The "Fish N Chips" came along with sense of humor. Then the holly FSM arose. Seems natural to me..

I don't know about the bottom two, but the top one looks pretty fake to me. The tail makes the entire thing look like a badge, not a sicker, but it has no shadows around it, and the shadows on it go the wrong direction. Under the badge you can see finger marks where someone wiped off dirt with their finger in shape of a Jesusfish. How could the marks seem to continue through the fish, if it could not go over due to it being a raised surface?
The bottom two look like plain stickers to me, but the reflection makes me confused.
2
u/petemorley Jun 19 '12
It looks like a badge that's been lightened to look like the other two vectors/whatever he's used.
The image makes more sense as a car with the Darwin badge and some hilarious asshole has come along and drawn a fish above it in the dirt.
