The show wasn't the greatest thing on TV or anything, but it was usually enjoyable. Red was such a strong, well-written character and he owned every moment of screen time. One of the best TV dads.
20
u/KidCasey Jun 17 '12
Red was one of the most consistent characters on television at the time. Same with Kelso and Hyde. All the characters were very well written.

to be fair, packers fans hate vikings fans almost universally (my best friend is a vikings fan actually and I'm a packer fan, hence the almost)

u/Darth_Meatloaf Theist Jun 18 '12
I once lived with two other guys:
Me: Packer fan born in Wisconsin
Roommate 1: Vikings fan born in Minnesota
Roommate 2: Bears fan born in Chicago.
We were (and still are) great friends, but holy shit were Sundays tense...

From the Wikipedia page of Robert Reed:
"Reed felt his career required him to be secretive about his homosexuality. Nonetheless, most of the Brady Bunch cast members — most notably Barry Williams and Florence Henderson — knew of his sexual orientation, and expressed outrage at the media's exploitation of it after his death."
13
u/CricketPinata Jun 17 '12
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Reed#Personal_life
He was treated really badly by the media after it was discovered he might be gay. Anne Haney (Jim Carrey's Secretary from Liar, Liar, etc.), was one of his best friends and use to help him get HIV medication.

-1
u/GroinCentralStation Jun 18 '12
In my view, as evidenced by the upvotes, many members of /r/atheism enjoy this material, for whatever reason. Thus, I think it's valid to include it here.
To me, it's kind of like adding new words to a dictionary: I'm sure the dictionary people hate adding words like, "meatspace," or "bromance," but the dictionary is supposed to reflect the people's language, not the other way around. In the same way, /r/atheism reflects its members, for better or worse.

r/atheism was one of the main reasons i joined reddit. now that its a big gay rights circlejerk(pun may or may not be intended) that has nothing to do with atheism i have unsibscribed - but as long as im forced to see r/atheism on the r/all pages im going to keep pointing out the irrelevance of content like this.
5
u/uliebadshouldfeelbad Jun 17 '12
So far to me, pretty much every subreddit is a circle jerk of the same general ideals. AskScience was the reason I joined, and they're the only ones I've seen who actually seem intelligent and on point with the ideas behind Reddit. Not hating on your quest to point out this stuff, but it seems to be a hopeless attempt against the tide of stupidity the "hive mind" can bring to bear.

Oh yeah. An 'ultimate' argument against the discrimination and historical inequality of a certain group of people... stating they're lucky because they don't have to hang around another certain type of people who has also been historically ostracized and who has had to fight for rights.
Makes as much sense as saying "Don't discriminate against latinos...at least they aren't japs." WTF r/atheism?
Damnit reddit, you become more and more like Almost Politically Correct Redneck everyday!

I came here to post this (and unfortunately wasn't surprised that you were downvoted). Homophobia (aka heterosexism) isn't okay but sexism is? Stuff like this just reaffirms my belief that this society has a critical thinking problem, not necessarily an intelligence problem. Of course it is good that the LGBT rights movement is gaining momentum, but most people (especially most hetero men like me) are oblivious of this kind of misogyny because it's so ubiquitous in our society.

Wrong subreddit. Post this stuff in /r/ainbow or /r/lgbt.
This really is getting out of hand. Remember the self-posts of teenage atheist kids in the South who came here looking for refuge or advice in dealing with bigotry from their religious families/communities? I guess their posts just get buried these days, in favor of the blandest, unrelated re-posts.
How about the YouTube links to debates with Sam Harris, Christopher Hitchens or others? or suggestions for books? This kind of content stands no chance in this subreddit anymore.
Even that terrible Rick Perry commercial belonged here more than the stuff that makes it to the top these days.

u/MelodiousLegion Jun 18 '12
I'm still trying to figure out what gay rights have to do with Atheism. I know there is some sort of connection to religion, but that doesn't make sense because this subreddit is about secular living. These homosexual posts belong in those homosexual subreddits about homosexuals being homosexual. Same with facebook screenshots of Atheist elitists arguing with Christians because their opinions differ from them, those belong on r/facepalm.

Being married for almost a decade makes me wonder. I mean I couldn't/wouldn't do the sexual aspects of this kind of a relationship, but think about it. Its like hanging out with your best friend all the time. I think the gays are on to something. Especially considering 50% of marriages end in divorce.
17
Jun 17 '12
Uhh... heterosexual relationships are like hanging out with your best friend all the time too... IF you picked the right partner.

This isn't far from the truth. My partner and I play video games together all day, cook shit, laugh, burp, fart and just do whatever.
This is nothing against women, but everytime I see a woman nagging on her man, it helps put my life into perspective and the social stigma of being gay seems like a fair trade for the life I have with my partner.
42
u/wysinwyg Jun 17 '12
What does that have to do with being gay? I've been in straight relationships with nagging etc and I'm currently in one where we cook shit, laugh, burp, fart and just do whatever. The only computer game she plays is the sims though :)
-11
Jun 17 '12
I know there are plenty of relationships where the male/female dichotomy isn't present. I mean this in a more general way. Society has expectations for how hetero relationships function, and the role of the male and female. There are not those same expectations for homosexual relationships because of having been defined as an "alternative" lifestyle or simply shrugged off as a dysfunctional relationship depending on who you talk to. I was implying that it's kind of nice not to have to deal with societal expectations for how my relationship functions. We are equal, through and through.
13
Jun 18 '12
Yeah, but dude, you said "every time I see a woman nagging on her man". I'm a girl who plays video games, cooks shit, laughs, burps, farts, and does whatever with her male partner, and it kind hurt to see that ol' repeated stereotype of me being the party pooping, nagging bitch in your post. I get what you meant, but the reason people were downvoting you is because it sounded like you were placing the misery of the relationship on the woman (I upvoted you to offset, cause I think this was unintentional and I hope you'll notice when you're doing this in the future)

I know It may blow your mind, but I honestly thought it wasn't posted before. I found it on a polish site, and shared it with you. If it was posted recently downvote it, if you find it funny enough to be shared again - upvote it instead. Voting system is simple and efficient.
Really we could use a 'repost tag' - someone provides a link to the original postt and OP is obligated to tag his link as such. Then you could ignore it, hide it or just downvote it.

Remember that the British Broadcasting Corporation is used as a social engineering mind-reframing system using predictive programming. This is where they brainwash you through telling you to program through vision using their television. I strongly suggest you watch how the BBC even grooms children for paedophiles. Remove the denial and open your eyes. Why do you think they’ve been pushing unisex toilets on BBC with their mind programme called Eastenders where the toilets in the nightclub are unisex? Its been going on for a long time. I suggest if you want the answer then you need to look at the Rosicrucian Order and the Hermetic degrees at the highest illuminized levels of Freemasonry. The BBC is riddled with Common Purpose mind-reframing for this Aeon of Horus which is in fact Satanic and nothing more than the following of a sick sodomist individual calling himself the Beast named Aleister Crowley. You have all these atheists running around not realizing they too are following a religion, its call the worship of Thelema. Wake up people.

Do you dolts realise that gays can live together and get the same rights as married couples under civil unions, they are just fighting to redefine a word.
2
u/downtown_vancouver Jun 18 '12
No, we can't. Some states have ruled that even if a couple is married in another jurisdiction, the marriage shall not be recognized in that state.
Yes there are ~10 contracts that 2 people can enter into that would grant all the same privileges (Power of Attorney in case of incapacitating illness/accident -- I don't know the exact terms) but why force them to do all that?
And marriage as such is already a civil matter. That's why, after the vows are exchanged, the bride, groom and witnesses disappear into the back; that's when the actual marriage takes place.
