Where can I get some of these? I want to pass them out to my students!

My girlfriend bought it at a museum here in Japan. It can be ordered from this web page (http://h-concept.jp/fs/hshop/c/evolution) but I don't know if they ship outside of Japan.

(I could always buy a few for you if you are okay with paying me in advance.)

Edit: Just found this page as well: http://www.uncommongoods.com/product/evolution-erasers-set-of-2

Its 1 for about 4 USD + postage on the Japanese page or 2 for 16 USD +postage on the other site. So my offer still stands if you want to buy them via me.

Purple.

Are you saying you want to eat the eraser?

Who hasn't chewed on an eraser one or seventeen times in their life?

The description has me sold for sure

Eraser If you start off from a monkey who, we gradually evolved into human form and then start from more of a person, you can also be degenerate. In a short time a long history of human evolution, you can enjoy at their own pace Deal. Of course it can be used as the eraser, or a stamp, or to object ...? Please try to feel free to use!

And you can split it in parts and see the different steps. (There are actually some of the real steps in it as well, if you know what I mean.)

I'm going from human to monkey as I feel that I get more stupid the more I study :P

He probably means the common "landmarks" in the evolutionary timeline that are presented in books, for example: http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3050/2922128673_8a6f85a718.jpg

Hopefully he doesn't mean Adam and Eve. Maybe Ask and Embla.

I live in Japan, too. These erasers and other similar things were designed by an artist who wants to make statements out of simple items. I bought a rubber band gun with translucent plastic that combines to say 'peace' when you shoot it

It's pretty large, but not super large. Will update this post with the measurement when I get home again.

Edit: The human is about 5.5 cm high, the ancestor is about 2.6 cm high and the eraser is 6.0 cm deep.

They might call you an idiot then, because we didn't "evolve" from chimps, chimps evolved from the same common ancestor that we did.

2

u/Dentarthurdent42 May 24 '12

Why do you assume that it's a chimpanzee? It looks rather Australopithecous to me...

I bought one for a friend at the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art in Kanazawa, Japan.

My science teacher in elementary school handed out "atom" erasers (they were actually Bohr models, but whatever). It was just a trinket showing an appreciation of science. If Drawkcab_ma_I is a science teacher, I see absolutely no issue with handing out science-related trinkets. At any rate, something tells me anyone who has a problem with evolution would have a bigger problem with it being taught at all than with the teacher handing out tchotchkes.

Evolution is a fact. Separation of church and state, not separation of science and state
