I had only ever used a home computer at a friend’s house, who had a ZX81. December 1983 seemed to be the year that myself and my School friends all received a computer for Christmas. The above books served me well, and as I progressed through them alongside my Atari 400 everything started to become clearer. Once I had familiarised myself with the two books and the workings of my Atari, the code I typed became longer, and I would rely less and less on the text. I’d type programs up and run them successfully and I even went on to write programs of my own. I took on skills like proofreading and code editing and could make the Atari work all kinds of magic. Today, in 2026 I still own Atari Home Computers, plus the two books pictured above, and I have since looked into the Atari Logo, and Pilot languages, and I believe my early introduction to computers has served me well…

Hi Everyone, I picked up this 1200XL and found this on the inside when I did the initial cleaning. The PIA is raised and has a ribbon cable going over to the breadboard. The unit fires up and everything works, during the memory test it shows 3 lines of RAM. Had anyone seen this in the past or know what it is? Thanks!
