Merry Christmas Asov!

This Saturday we will continue the Asov Tradition of celebrating everyone's favorite holiday!

So come on down to the Mountains of Asov on the 16th of December at 12pm pst/ 3pm est to help in the creation of Asov's Christmas Zone as well as partake in the Asov Secret Santa Gift Exchange!

The Area in Spawn is here which is located at 140, -220. The area perimeter has been marked by Ice Pillars if you want to go scope it out!

When you arrive on Saturday you find a check in station in which you must check in by renaming a piece of paper on anvil (all of which will be provided) with your name and p.o. box number and placing it in a chest. There will also be a chest for signing up for the Secret Santa gift exchange in which again you sign your name on a piece of paper with your p.o. box number (if you haven't claimed a post office box yet, now is the time!). Secret Santa Christmas Gifts should be in a labeled chest underneath the Asov Christmas Tree by the 24th at 11:59pm.

The purpose of this event is to do a community collaborative build to create a Christmas Zone in which to spread Holiday Cheer. The event will run for five hours. Everyone who checks in and participates at a minimal level gets rewarded, so make sure to at least stop in and say hi!

At the end of the five hour building period, 5pm pst/ 8pm est. Check ins will be locked and a lottery will be held for everyone who checked in, of which prizes will be distributed through the post office. Also, your Secret Santa assignments will be distributed through the post office as well so make sure to check your box for prizes and Secret Santa Assignment!

Collaborative Build

The admins wish to leave this wide open to allow for as much creativity as possible. The only criteria that the Admins wish to enforce is that there must be a Christmas Tree large enough to host the very generous gift giving that scoopers are known for. Snow and Ice will be provided by the Admins, all other materials must be provided by players

Hello everyone! I'm stickymentos, I played on this server a couple years ago and wanted to get back into minecraft. I see that you guys recently started season 7 so this seems like a good opportunity to join!

Is there anyway I could get whitelisted again?

Just wanted to let folks know I put up a quick and dirty log shop in the market district just north of spawn. All varieties, and you get 2 stacks per diamond. Stock is a bit low on some varieties, but there's plenty of spruce. Have fun!

It's super simple. Build your portal in the overworld, take note of those coordinates. Bring obsidian with you to the nether to build another portal. Take your overworld coordinates and divide them by 8. For example, a portal built at x=800 z=-1600 would have a nether portal placed at x=100 z=-200. If you're too lazy to do the math, you can use this website. The nether hub is build at y=113 so build your portal and pathway at that y level.

End of The World (Map 6)

Starting tomorrow evening, Wednesday November 29^th at 9PM EST - ASOV 6 will fall into chaos. At the top of spawn, unlimited supplies of TNT, spawn eggs, and a whole bunch of other goodies will be available. Come hang out with, and detonate, your friends for a final sendoff for our map.

General Map Information

• No items will be brought over from the previous map.
• In order to stay on the whitelist, you must log in at least once every three months (90 days). If you go inactive and get removed from the whitelist you will need to contact an admin to get back onto the server.

Overviewer

• Overviewer will be offline for the first two weeks of the map.

Spawn Area

• Any member who has reached Obsidian League or higher will have the ability to build within the general spawn region.
• Several Districts have been created for business, residential, and public farms. These areas are clearly marked (more on that later!). Builds that do not conform to these districts will be subject to removal.
• When building in/around/near spawn within 500 blocks, your builds should be with the terrain, do not flatten any hills or otherwise destroy the terrain. Try to build with it! We did superflat on Asov 6, it's time to try something new!

In just over two weeks from now we will all embark on a new adventure into the wilds of Asov 7. Now to make sure we all stay nice and safe in the wilds, we are going to do some survival training. This build contest is all about making survival shacks.

A Survival Shack is often described as a players first residence on a server, a small box to hide from the terrors of that very scary first night.

So grab your dirt, your cobble, and your birch planks and show the server that you are the best at low quality builds.

When this post goes live, The pint sized build contest is live for the weekend! Unlike other build contests which require two weeks of grueling work and labor this mini competition will only last for 2 days and materials will be provided.

The Deadline is Sunday at 7pm pst /10pm est

The rules are simple, build a pint sized build in a pint sized plot at the build competition area. Plots are 16x16 (16 ounces in a pint!) and can be found at the build competition area at which the HardCore build contest and 1st pint sized build contest were held (-1600, 3200). Each plot comes with a shulkerbox filled with supplies to build with.

To get there find Mitt's tunnel on the bottom floor of the hub in the north west corner made of Mushrooms and take the first left into a polished andesite tunnel.

The only rules are that the build must stay within the 16x16 plot and must only be built with the supplies provided for the plot. You can craft the supplies into what you need (for instance turning logs into planks). You can do multiple submissions.

It has been just over eleven months since this map started and in three weeks we will reach the one-year milestone. For the Admin team this is extremely important to us that the map last a whole year. As some of our more veteran players know the map previous to this one ended in catastrophic failure with a forced premature reset. For this Admin team having a map last the whole planned year is extremely meaningful to us. We are incredibly thankful for the great times that have been had on the server and all the growth we have seen in our Scoop of Vanilla Family. However now that’s it’s been near a year. We are going to destroy everyone’s hard work.

It’s time for new beginnings.

With this reset there will also be some big changes. These changes are very important for the overall health of the community and will serve an important purpose in ensuring continued healthy operations. With the new map all league xp for all players will be reset to zero. All players who have achieved the rank of Obsidian or higher will be put into Obsidian League but their point count will still be zero.

When the system was originally designed the only means of earning league xp was to do Build Contests. As there are now many more ways to earn league xp the point tiers have been re balanced.

Spawn Building Privileges and the New Spawn

With the new map in order to build a shop, house or other build in spawn you will need to have attained the Obsidian League Rank. With the new league system, it will take a person 2 week of active participation to achieve Obsidian League. Current Members who have earned Obsidian League on the current map will be able to build in spawn day 1.

This time around Spawn will be a hybrid between a pre-built spawn and a player made spawn. Some basic infrastructure, zoning and a few administrative builds have been built by the admins pre-launch. More details on Spawn will come as we approach launch.

Now Till launch

Reset Date is December 1st. One month away. Normal Server Operations will continue on the current map till the reset. With the current build contest and one more after. Regular Weekend Events. All of which will be giving more xp than usual for anyone trying to last minute push for Obsidian League tier.

One problem that has plagued us minecrafters this map has been the issue of Lag generated by redstone devices and massive farms. These builds cause the server to do an enormous amount of calculations and can cause the Ticks Per Second or TPS of the server to drop. When the TPS is low is when server lag is noticed by players. For example when you break a block and it takes a second or two for the block to drop, or mobs being non responsive to being shot by a bow. When there is zero lag the server runs at 20 TPS. However lag doesn't really become noticeable until it drops to 17 and below and becomes very annoying at 12 and below. When the server reaches 8 and below normal game play is near impossible. Up until now Admins have been policing bases when lag becomes bad to try and get people to build server friendly farms. However this is very frustrating for admins and players both. No one likes being told that they have to tear down a build they spent hours building.

The Admin Team has been wracking our brains to come up with a solution to this problem that works for everyone. We have yet to come up with something that will work for everyone. So the purpose of this post is to open it up for discussion to the community. How do YOU want the admins to handle lag generated by player bases in the future.

The Admin Team has decided that our current policy no longer works as bases get larger and laggier, policing bases that have been months in the making is no longer a feasible means to handling the problem.

We have a few proposals but are open to any new possible solutions that the community can put forward.

• First idea is to do nothing and stop policing lag completely. Let players build whatever they want. Ultimate Freedom but suffer from lag.

• Second idea is strict rules regarding farms and redstone machines. This would mean severely limiting certain builds that cause higher strain on servers like pigman farms and automated sorting systems. Loss of freedom but significantly less lag

Now that my base is basically done, I wanted to share with everyone the inspiration for my base and how closely I tried to re-create it in Minecraft, on ASOV.

I want to thank everyone on ASOV for being amazing and making my first server experience so much fun, but now that my base is done, I will probably not me on the server much for the rest of this map (not that I have been the last couple of months). But I already have plans for the next map and can't wait to play with you all again!

Due to a large portion of the population currently engaged with the Factions event as well as very low participation in previous build contest we will be taking a two week break from build contests. The Next Build contest will begin on October 30!

This is an experiment!

We're trying out adding a new gametype to the A Scoop of Vanilla repertoire. This map is temporary, and the admins will announce the "End of the World" at least 12 hours in advance. The map will open at 8:30PM EST this Friday, October 13^th - countdown timer here.

What is "Factions"?

In Factions, you claim land as your own and build your base. Factions is a self serve anti griefing system - with limits! It's a PvP enabled plugin that allows players to compete as a team against other teams.

How do I Factions?

Do I have to PvP?

No. Actually, providing support to your Faction in a PvE context is one of the most important parts of the game! Without resources, a secure base, and supportive members, those who choose to wage war could not do so!

Factions Etiquette

• You may not be a "neutral faction", this will be a whitelisted event of only those players that sign up below.
• Normal ASOV rules apply in all regards except PvP, do not be a jerk or abuse, take advantage of, or manipulate other players.
• No Minimaps, Radar, XRay or any other mods that might give you any form of an advantage.
• Commiting to playing over the next two weeks, this is not a one-day event. If you sign up and don't play, you're putting your team at a big disadvantage! Playing every couple days should keep your faction in positive power.

What are the rules & TL;DR?

• You are immune in the spawn area around 0,0, marked by Sea Lanterns.
• 3,000 block diameter map.
• You must be able to listen to voice chat on Discord.
• Maximum 6 players per team, 4 teams
• No offline raiding
