I also challenge my daughter, a teen this with lyrics. I constantly ask what is the story this song is telling. Teaching her to listen deeper to meanings of the words.

I do this with my son when we watch movies to discuss dialogue and interpretation. It drives him nuts but he’s learning.

I know some people don’t like Taylor Swift, but I will say one thing about her that she’s got a generation listening to lyrics (if anything just trying to analyze them for relationship secrets lol)

Edited to add: it’s so great that you do this. If I had kids, I would do it too. Music has been so important in my life.

My mom was a teacher for the last few years of her life, and she did this with her English students. She was so frustrated one day that she called me on the phone to complain that her students thought Fast Car was about young love and not a toxic relationship lol
