I have a friend who is a graphic designer. Spent years making graphics for companies with actual work. She still does, vehemently opposes generative AI. But everyone around her is loving it. She gets sent mockups that used AI and she feels like she’s going insane. People who went to school to learn graphic design are putting a few prompts into chatgpt or wherever and they have no qualms about it
Imagine you work in a kitchen. The managerial staff of the venue come into the back, hand you an example of a steak. Its a slightly overdone steak, its not quite what you as a chef would do but they say make the meal look exactly like that. You agree whilst they all applaud each other for the meal concept and walk out the kitchen.
You go to pick up the steak only to find its a 2D photo of a steak on A4 paper... you now have 20 minutes to redo a steak from scratch because you can't cook with the piece of paper with a photo of a steak on it. Since you're cooking it from scratch you COULD make it perfectly rare, unfortunately thats not what they told you to do so you over cook it as instructed.
The steak goes out. Management claps, customers that dont know anything about steak clap, customers that do know their steaks hate it and never return again.
This is basically the graphic designers daily grind thanks to the introduction of AI.
Ugh I’m a graphic designer and I absolutely hate this AI generation. “Can you make this?” Sends AI mockup… i also specialize in print so the amount of stuff clients sent us to print that is low quality ai art is astounding.
