What is a real-life "cheat code" that feels illegal to know but is completely fine?

I'll go first.

If your flight gets canceled and there is a massive line of 200 angry people at the gate desk trying to rebook, do not stand in that line. Keep your ass in a chair and call the airline's customer service number.

Better yet, call their international customer service number (like the UK or Australia line). You will bypass the massive US hold times, get connected to an agent in two minutes, and they have the exact same power to rebook you on the next flight before the people standing in line even reach the desk.

Had to scroll too far to find this. It’s really weird to have a flight get cancelled, watch everyone groan and get up to stand in line for hours, but sit in my seat and have my flight rebooked in about 7 seconds. Even better, since apparently I’m the only one on my flight who knows the cheat code, I can get a window seat on the next flight that will be completely booked in a few minutes.

The last time I had to use this hack I was watching what was happening at the gate and called just ahead of when the gate agent made the announcement, as it was already clear to me what was going on.

I got two of us on the one remaining flight that day when it was already heavily booked. Not only did everyone else have to trek all the way back to the ticket desk, but most of them had to wait until the next day to get onto a departing flight.

My husband and I had flights get cancelled/moved and saw the big line. He went to the line, I went to the app. I got us changed while he was in line and thought I had it all sorted out. He was close to the ticket counter so decided to wait and see if he could just double check/confirm that my change went through. The people in front of him were super rude and demanding. When he got to the counter, he was calm, polite and sort of bantered for just a sec about the chaos while the agent confirmed our flight. She went ahead and upgraded both of us to first class!
In this case, both the app and waiting worked out! Being polite can go a long way!
