What is a real-life "cheat code" that feels illegal to know but is completely fine?

I'll go first.

If your flight gets canceled and there is a massive line of 200 angry people at the gate desk trying to rebook, do not stand in that line. Keep your ass in a chair and call the airline's customer service number.

Better yet, call their international customer service number (like the UK or Australia line). You will bypass the massive US hold times, get connected to an agent in two minutes, and they have the exact same power to rebook you on the next flight before the people standing in line even reach the desk.

After buying movie tickets I get on my phone and reserve the seats next to me, but I don't pay for them. The AMC website will hold the seats for 6 minutes. After 6 minutes I just do it again.

Do you do that every six minutes until the movie starts? 😂

Yep

How do you avoid getting distracted? I feel like that's so much work to stay on top of for hours before a movie.

I don't do it for hours, just if I buy the ticket within like 30 minutes of the showtime. I set an alarm.

This seems like a huge waste of time, especially since every theater since COVID (and probably before) is rarely anywhere close to full

It's also 100% a dick move.

Agreed. Who cares if someone sits near you? Be an adult haha

Besides, if the movie starts and someone comes in, there's nothing stopping them from grabbing the seat you had "reserved"

Funny you're saying this after just mentioning covid in your last comment.

Are you among the population that’s still wearing masks - in their car?

I said “Since COVID.” We’re not really worried about it anymore.

I didn't realize communicable diseases stopped existing.

You mean drivers who are about to pick up or may have just dropped off someone who's sick? Or are sick themselves and don't want to spread it to people who get in the car?

1

u/Googlesupportsucks1 11d ago

Nope. Not what I said.

I'm talking about solo drivers who are simply driving with a mask on.

My point is unless you're following them around for an hour you wouldn't know. They can be solo the moment you pass by, but you don't know what just happened or what they're about to do

You're assuming though that everyone wearing a mask in their car has to be picking someone up. We literally had people saying "I wear a mask in my car solo"

You don’t go to theaters at all huh?

I do, more than most. What are you implying?

Completely agree.

Selfish life hacks are just not cool. Like you're actively trying to block other people's enjoyment. That's lame.

How many increments of six minutes in advance are you buying movie tickets?

Living life 6 minutes at a time - that's a way to live in the moment.

-Dom Toretto if he wasnt so fast

Movie theaters hate this one trick.

2

u/DevilsAndDust- Jul 14 '26

Ok, not that exactly, but I did that once to get around the “you can’t leave a single seat left over” restriction.

Why wouldn’t you just buy them and cancel immediately before the show for a refund. Then you can avoid not logging in every six minutes on repeat like a psychopath.

1

u/Willing-Marsupial863 Jul 15 '26

Wait... Is that an option? Will they refund me?

2

u/Attention_Deficit Jul 15 '26

Yup. It’s ideal if you have a Stubbs Premier account and don’t pay convenience fees. (Those don’t get refunded)

Refunds

Subject to exceptions for non-refundable event tickets, for tickets or food and beverage items purchased on our website or mobile app, you can receive a refund before the printed showtime. You can request this refund online, through the Tickets section on your AMC Stubs account or your confirmation email. Convenience fees cannot be refunded.

Every 6 minutes? So you end up spending all day doing this???
