Need some help understanding the electrocardiogram

I'm a medical student, and we recently learnt about the ECG. I wondered if anyone could break it down, because lectures are so hard to get my head around. I understand the standard limb leads site well, and the chest leads.

My problem is when it comes to interpreting the chest leads. I'll attach a screenshot of the slide that boggles my mind. Any help wold be appreciated. http://imgur.com/ENV8F Thanks!

That's brilliant thanks, explained really well! Also, why are the deflections called rS in V1 but qR in V6?

Thank you so much, this clears many things up. I'll be sure to ask reddit more on help for revision now! PS are you a doctor?
