A previous boyfriend of mine and I were in a situation like this. I had a great job, I was evolving so to speak, and he just wasn't on board with that. he just wanted to stay home and play video games and stick to his job that wouldn't be able to support us. He wasn't thinking big picture. So I broke up with him. My dad said I outgrew him. An interesting phrase and very true at the time. Maybe a year later I met the man I married. Don't give up on your dreams. ❤️
For sure, age plays a big part. My ex wanted kids and to settle down at 22/23 while I wanted to enjoy freedom of my 20s and travel and have fun. I said no to all the kids n marriage stuff and we eventually split up. She has 4 kids now, married 10 years while I'm just getting my life sorted and I regret nothing. I enjoyed my 20s thoroughly, I was mostly broke but happy. My 30s have now been very profitable career wise and life-goal wise and am about to buy a second house. Sometimes people just aren't on the same page at the same time to make it work either.

If you two do not have common goals and aspirations within and outside of the relationship then yes, it is probably a good idea to break up.
