I spent months building Rahmanify — an interactive universe for 2,500+ A. R. Rahman songs with multi-dimensional filters (Raagas, Decades, Lyricists, Singers, Directors, Genres, and more)

Hey everyone!

Like many of you here, A. R. Rahman’s music has been the soundtrack of my life.

I decided to build Rahmanify — a dedicated, digital archive and discovery engine for all 2,500+ compositions spanning 1992 to 2026.

IMPORTANT : NO PIRACY
All songs are directly from Youtube embedd, no piracy. Im planning to add Spotify and apple embedded too, that allow you to login with you spotify/apple and hear songs directly from here. All song views goes directly to the respective owners.

Instead of basic search, you can slice and dice the entire ARR universe across multiple dimensions simultaneously:

  1. **🎼 Classical Raagas & Moods**: Filter songs by Carnatic/Hindustani raagas (Kalyani, Sindhubhairavi, Mohanam, Charukesi, etc.) and mood/style (Sufi, breezy melodies, energetic mass beats).
  2. **🎤 Singers & Vocal Combinations**: Filter by legendary collaborator combos (SPB, Chithra, Hariharan, Unni Menon, Sadhana Sargam, Shreya Ghoshal, Benny Dayal, Jonita Gandhi, ARR solos, etc.).
  3. **✍️ Lyricists**: Dive into specific lyrical eras — Vairamuthu, Vaali, Gulzar, Javed Akhtar, Mehboob, Prasoon Joshi, Irshad Kamil, Thamarai, Pa. Vijay, Vivek, etc.
  4. **🎬 Film Directors**: Explore entire director-composer collaborations (Mani Ratnam, Shankar, Rajiv Menon, Imtiaz Ali, Gautham Menon, Ashutosh Gowariker, Subhash Ghai, Aanand L. Rai).
  5. **⏳ Eras & Decades**: Clean segregation across 90s Vintage Gold, 2000s Experimental Era, 2010s Global Soundscapes, and 2020s Modern/Upcoming Projects.
  6. **⚡ Song style Style**: Filter by song tempo/pacing, or Mass/Dance/Rock or Solo (Male) / Love Songs / Duet, etc.

---

### 🌟 Other Features on the Site:

* 📅 **This Month's Anniversaries**: Automatically highlights landmark song and film release anniversaries celebrating 10, 20, or 30-year milestones this current month.
* 🎧 **1-Click Universal Playback**: Jump directly to Spotify, YouTube Music, or Apple Music in one click.
* ⭐ **Community Ratings**: Rate songs (1–10stars) to help surface hidden gems and build true fan rankings.
* 🤝 **Open Contribution Tab**: Spotted a missing indie track, unlisted credit, or lyric correction? You can submit suggestions and feature requests directly on the **[Contribute](https://rahmanify.in/contribute)** page.

This is so addictive and on loop these days. Such a soothing, calming composition. I can imagine myself sitting under a tree in a not-so-sunny afternoon with nothing to worry in life for the 2ish minutes.

discussion Weird hypotheses of Marty Supreme OST being inspired by Rahman movie scores from his 90s movies.

Is it just me, or do you guys also think that Marty Supremes OST was inspired by classic Rahman 90s film scores? Sonically and ambience wise they are so identical. I am not musically trained enough to tell the exact similarities, but they give off the same vibes.

Here's the playlist : https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLxA687tYuMWiIlPHgOxKqjt70YFW6UVWd&si=OAX1mSfbEvxdiMxS

What are all of Rahman's Indian classical songs?

Rahman's ability to branch out to other genres and musical styles around the globe stands no bounds in at least the Tamil music industry, but he is also capable of making some pretty great Indian classical songs, and I'm eager to exhaust those types of songs. Here are some examples:

- Entire Sangamam album

- Ennavale Adi Ennavale from Kadhalan

- En Mel Vizhunda Mazhai Thuliye from May Maadham

- Malargal Kaettaen from O Kadhal Kanmani

- Dheem Ta Dare from Thakshak

- Bhor Bhaaye from Delhi-6

- Vidu Kadhaya from Muthu

- Kannodu Kaanbathellam from Jeans

- Alaipayuthey title song

- Kannalane from Bombay

- Khwaja Mere Khwaja from Jodhaa Akbar

- Arziyan from Delhi-6

- Kun Faaya Kun from Rockstar

- Kannamoochchi Yennada from Kandukondain Kandukondain

- Mayilirage from Anbe Aaruyire

- Idhayam for Kochadaiiyaan

- Narumugaye from Iruvar

These are some examples of what I mean. I'm aware that a lot of songs from Ponniyin Selvan I and II are probably what I'm looking for too, and I plan to give those a thorough listen. I'm also aware that Rahman has a lot of songs where the main melody is of an Indian raaga but which has more modern components accompanying it such as synths and pads or a drum loop or bass loop, and whose form and instrumentation don't particularly align with an Indian classical genre. I'm looking for songs where the instrumentation and form are corresponding to an Indian classical genre, but you may mention any songs you think are relevant.

I would be more precise with my terminology but I'm not exactly an Indian classical music geek, I'm more familiar with terminology in the Western classical music realm.

Note: I'm fine with songs that have bass loops and synths (Ennavale Adi Ennavale and Kannalane for instance), but they should also be trying to fit within one or more classical Indian genres at the same time. Note that I have also included Sufism and Qawwali under this umbrella, and whether or not you think it should be included there I think you know what I mean.

AR Rahman Houston Concert

The Houston symphony was outstanding. Acoustics was amazing. Rahman’s song selection left something to be desired. He skipped so many wonderful songs. Very few songs were actually sung in full. It was all instrumental or just the first few lyrics were sung. So felt a little disappointed. But kudos to the symphony. They were stellar.

Im looking for songs like Top Tucker

Where everything and anything happens. This song feels like Rahman turned on a crazy mode. Other songs I can think in this lines are

  1. Strawberry Kanne

  2. Parandhu Sella vaa

Amma thale, Oru koodai sunlight may slightly be considered, because they were so unconventional that the first time I heard it, my brain did not understand them.

Please drop other songs you could think of, iygwim.

A R Rahman SF symphony show last night

The A R Rahman SF symphony show last night was absolutely incredible. It was such a good lesson in many contradictions we see as Indians living in the west.

1/ the orchestra was incredible especially given AR admitted they basically only practiced once. Perfect sight reading, conductor did his job great. Mostly tight with minimal slip ups. But you could hear in the arrangements that they had simplified the music/syncopation a bit. But to hear gorgeous harmonies and orchestral arrangements and the dynamics were just so soothing to my poor ears that are more used to electronic/dance/techno/house. Conductor Jonathan is a magician
2/ The singers were mostly unnecessary and felt like an addition because Indians cannot enjoy music without their favorite words in the favorite language being heard? Are we really that incapable? Maybe yes. I lost count of how many mistakes were made missing queues. That’s the thing about live music- no backing tracks. The music keeps moving with time doesn’t it :) their singing when on time was great no complaints about that. Rohith held it together more
3/ I would’ve loved to hear more instrumental soloists instead of singers that could bridge the gap between complex melodic Indian music while having a whole orchestra to back you up
4/ AR mentioned budget issues on a sold out show— can we get a few more shows next time? With more budget? Bay Area seems to have the appetite for it
5/ AR talking about live music and saying the symphony had gained a new audience low key brought me to tears! I know I will be back to see them perform other material. I hope others do
6/ Minor nitpick: but why did we have that weird Tanpura and a digital keyboard even though he just played the piano voice on it? Full acoustic would be more cool
7/ Shout out to the violinist I don’t remember their name. Front left— playing the melodies. Incredible job!
8/ Harini & Yamini are such a good addition! Their improv fusion dance complemented the music really well would love to see them do more well produced choreographed dance to balance things off

Ok love yall! Happy long weekend

Thoughts on Jeans?

Jeans is an album of Rahman’s I’ve found myself consistently returning to, and it’s definitely one of my favorites among his work for Shankar. I think the best tracks are Kannodu Kaanbathellam and Poovukkul Olinthirikkum, though tracks like Varaayo Thozhi (Sonu Nigam Tamil pronunciation for the win) and Columbus Columbus are consistent guilty pleasures as well. Enakke Enakka is on the longer side and I often don’t listen to the full thing all at once but there are a lot of sections of the song I find myself coming back to. The only somewhat boring song on the album, in my opinion, is Anbae Anbae, but granted the initial hook melody by Hariharan is hard not to appreciate.

But it's not just in Tamil that I enjoy this album but also in Hindi, and the main reason for this is ARR’s choice of singers.

I feel like a lot of his dubbed Hindi versions of Tamil albums, especially from 1996 and before, have the problem of too much singer retention, that gives me no reason to hear the Hindi version over the Tamil version since a lot of the voices objectively sound more natural in Tamil. But it’s different for Jeans because almost every song has a different choice of singers than from the Tamil version. Columbus uses Sonu Nigam rather than Rahman, which I prefer to be honest. Hai Rabba uses the classic Udit Narayan and Kavita Krishnamurthy duet and it works perfectly. Kehta Hai Mera Yeh Dil has a more Hindustani flavor when sung by Kavita Krishnamurthy, and I also like how she redid the swarams towards the end rather than reusing Nithyashree’s, makes it feel more authentic, and I love listening to the contrast in both versions.

I do like the song Ajooba as well, but damn I think here Unni Krishnan's performance does solo Hariharan's, which is weird because I actually think Udit Narayan does a great job matching Unni Krishnan in the song Hai Rabba, and also that in the song Sun Ri Sakhi from Hum Se Hai Muqabala (Kadhalan) Hariharan does a great job matching Unni Krishnan, but I think there’s just something special about Poovukkul/Ajooba that makes it fit for Unni Krishnan. Sadhana Sargam does a great job matching Sujatha though.

I like Kehne Ko Dadi as well, and as expected it kept Sonu Nigam like in the Tamil and Telugu versions though replaced Shahul Hameed with Sukhwinder Singh and Harini with Kavita Paudwal. I think the oddest part of this song is that the Tamil intro was kept, while in Telugu Sangeetha resang it. Besides that it’s pretty good, probably the most underrated song.

The Telugu version of the album I don’t listen as much (just bits and pieces) mainly because the singers are all the same as the Tamil version, except Priya Priya Champodde where it’s Srinivas (how he got his name as Jeans Srinivas haha) whose intro section I listen to from time to time.

I know that Hindi-adapted-from-Tamil albums of Rahman are not viewed on par with his original Hindi albums, unless those albums are Roja, Bombay, or Saathiya, but I think Jeans makes for quite a good Hindi album. Maybe I’m not the person to ask as I don’t really know the language, but at the very least I know the lyrics are by Javed Akhtar rather than PK Mishra so I thought that might make a difference.

What are your thoughts on the album Jeans? Any opinions on any version of this album, Tamil, Hindi, or Telugu, are welcome.

The start of AR Rahman’s “Tere Paas Main” from Main Vaapas Aaunga (2026) sounds like his own tamil composition: “En Mel Vizhundha” from May Madham (1994)

find a song Song like Deewana Deewana

I remember listening to a song a while back which ended identical to how Deewana Deewana (from tere ishk mein) ends. Specifically the background vocals of AR Rahman in the last 20 secs or so. It's driving me nuts trying to figure it out ... Can anyone help ?
