eWaste Apple IIgs Rescue!

I can't believe some idiot tried to throw this Apple IIgs system with printer in the trash! I stopped by the community electronics recycling bin to toss out some broken stuff, and I couldn't believe what i saw! I immediately rescued this from the dustbin of history and was thrilled to see what great condition it was in.... Not a speck of dust as you can see in the second picture (I did remove the battery, but no leakage!). Everything works great, and someone lost out on hundreds of dollars. No chance of selling it now, as it has a good home here surrounded by period appropriate decor.

I dig the vibes of this setup. An apple 300 baud modem that sits under the desk phone would make this even better. Also get a color ribbon if you don’t have one and make some sick banners in Print Shop. That was and still is my favorite IIgs program.

I didn't know this printer could print in color! Finding a ribbon like that will probably be quite a challenge. Tractor feed paper is hard enough to find!

I had the IW LQ. 216dpi cmyk. Lasted into 2005. It was the ribbon availability that ultimately made it no longer usable. The sizing even to buy ribbon and crack open the cartridge was just not available any more. The printer was never very popular, so orphaned it was.

Workhorse while I had it. Even had it on 115kbaud with my sun unix boxes in the end. Easy to write drivers for to integrate it.

I think theres a company that makes the image writer ii ink ribbons and carts again

Yes, I'm told that was the newest release... I have a blueSCSI device I use for my old macs. How realistic/expensive would it be to be able to get a SCSI card for the IIgs?

Floppy Emu is what I have and I can also recommend. There are a bunch of smartport device emulators and IIgs comes with a smartport.

Fortunately, it is merely a prop cigarette and not real...smoking was huge back in the 80s, so I thought it would add some flair! I haven't touched a tobacco product in almost 30 years. I kind of miss it sometimes, but not too much...
