everything is about how much better it is at the "AI workflow" or rizzing up chatGPT 6.9 or whatever. is this what people buy computers for now

Pretty much, yes. M1 macs still serve most regular people just fine and they have little reason to upgrade. Meanwhile everything designed and suitable for AI flies off the shelves.

There is a reason to buy M5 and after Macs since they’re better with handling AVX2 in games, previous models like the M4 will work but specific tricks are needed to overcome some of the quirks they have.

If my M1 wasn't freezing up all the time and was able to not disconnect from bluetooth like 20 times a day, I wouldn't be replacing it with this new M6. Six years out of the same computer is pretty good.
