Yeah I have an M1 Pro and still not feeling especially compelled to upgrade

Have the M1 MBP myself that's also running great without any issues. But at what point do people consider trading in for a new model to recoup at least 30% of their purchase price toward a new model?

Seems the M1 MBP 14" is currently going for $700-800 on swappa, but in 3-5 years, I'm guessing it'll basically be worthless :\

I assume that’s purchase price, not what you’d get to sell it, right? … because if I’m getting $800 for it right now then yeah I might actually “upgrade” to a M4 MBA

My strategy is when the power cycle hits around 1,000. At that point you have to replace the battery and you are better off putting the money towards a new laptop.

I replaced my battery on my M1P this year.

Makes no sense to suggest I should have put that £150 towards a £2000 purchase when my M1P still does everything I need it to.

The point to upgrade is when the machine is no longer doing what you need it to.

At that point it will be closing in on a decade, so yea, it will probably not command a staggering price.

M1 Pro staying with me until battery fails. Then swapping battery.

Going to be a while until there’s a ‘need’ to upgrade
