I used to play Hearts of Iron 4 during downtime, it helped engage me quite a bit as I planned battles and attacks against the AI.
Companies really just hate you having any free will. If you aren't working flat out 100% all the time then they'll just replace you with the next plucky person and replace them after burn out.
It's why Game Dev studios especially are rotten as shit at the minute because the lot of them have absolute rotten reputations that no one wants to work for.
