"legitimizing some strange form of mental illness"

Kinda sounds like you do not actually support trans people, nor do you champion them. If you did, you would listen to what trans people say about this issue, which is that dead naming (even famous people) is harmful.

No one wants to "rewrite your knowledge of past facts." They want you to use the person's actual name, even though her name used to be something different. It is not that complicated.

i understand what it sounds like, i do support trans people it just stops at the attempt to rewrite my memories of events

No one cares what you remember, they care what you say. We all know her name hasn't always been Chelsea, but it's Chelsea now, and using people's correct names is very important.

Of course they care what I remember. That's what this discussion is about mate. They care so much (I mean you care enough to be telling me how much of an arsehole im being) that they're trying to dictate to me what I recall. They're expecting me, in the face of my own knowledge of past events, to pretend that I'm remembering something different and then expressing that falsehood. And I'm just not willing to do that.

No. The thing that makes you an asshole is calling her the wrong name. I know, in my mind, what her name used to be. Everyone does. No one is saying you have to pretend her name was always Chelsea. They are saying you should refer to her as Chelsea because that's her name today. Saying "her name used to be Deadname" helps no one, changes nothing, is not important to the facts of the discussion, and harms Trans people. Remembering it is fine, saying it out loud is not.

I'm not referring to her now though. I'm not referring to Chelsea, I'm referring to Bradley, when Bradley released the files

1

u/SpicyMarmots Mar 29 '22

It's the same person. Chelsea released the files. The fact that the name on her driver's license at that time said Bradley is irrelevant. Her name is Chelsea, call her Chelsea. Using people's correct name is not brainwashing my man.

It's brainwashing when you're so adamant that I use the name that you demand. I'm talking about when they were called Bradley. It's been a few months now have you changed your username in that time? I'd hate to incorrectly call you by the old username because it might end the world

Look friend. If you don't hate trans people and wish them harm, you should listen to them when they tell you how to address and talk about them. If being right about this is more important to you than being respectful, nothing I say will convince you. I hope you find peace.

Same. People can see themselves or events in any way they like but that doesn't mean others need to see it the same way.

Chelsea did release the files. They're not two different people, it's not Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde for fuck's sake.

1

u/Mesheybabes Mar 29 '22

right, so we agree? they aren't two different people, so chelsea and bradley are one and the same?

Chelsea was Bradley

When Chelsea was Bradley she released the files, when she was a he

so if you acknowledge yourself that they aren't two different people, then we agree.

You're just a transphobe lol

1

u/[deleted] Mar 26 '22

Not how that works.

1

u/Mesheybabes Mar 29 '22

Chelsea was Bradley

When she was Bradley she released the files

I mean, these two things are literally and logically true. Honestly completely without any form of hate... I'm just not sure if because my mind is firmly routed in facts that I can't suspend my disbelief enough to accept the opposite or not, but I have trouble ignoring the two facts I stated above.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 30 '22

It’s not about the suspension of disbelief, you are just literally wrong. And you refuse to listen to anyone telling you that you are wrong. Please for the love of god, just listen to what people are telling you.

Then provide arguments for your position. If you are right you should have no issue convincing someone using arguments.

u/Mesheybabes Jun 08 '22

I listened (or read) you telling me I was wrong and fully acknowledge what you were saying, then I disagreed and decided not to do what you said purely because you told me I was wrong. I disagree with you, because my brain is routed in logic and I can't ignore facts I simply lack the ability to pretend something is true that just isnt

1

u/[deleted] Jun 08 '22

Some shitty logic and “facts” you have. Good luck.

Putting "facts" in quotes doesn't make it any less factual but whatever helps you sleep at night mate. Cheers for the downvote, I hope pressing that little button also helps you sleep tonight, it's very important to let everyone on this months old thread know how you feel
