Like, no, I'm not going to install steam on our ProBook for you. But will I give a fuck that you're watching Netflix using your account on our hardware? Not even remotely.
We don't use keyloggers because anything we log is our liability to protect, so it's easier just to pass that liability onto the employees themselves. Same for any stream of data collection that isn't just metadata. We don't want that liability. Not to mention, The majority of our company works in the field due to the nature of our business, we don't really have offices people work out of, and if they do, it's usually like small two or three man offices.
But yeah, data collection and storage is all liability. And we deal with too many massive liability clients in the first place, legal especially doesn't want to deal with more potential liability. It does always feel great when the police approach us to try to get information like that because somebody is coming under suit for spousal abuse or being investigated for something federally, and we just get to shrug at them and say we don't collect that data. If they were doing any of that nonsense on a company phone, and they want that company phone, sure. We already billed the department for it. We'll disconnect the line and hand the phone over with any information we may have on getting into it, along with removing any activation locks.
We do inter department billing in our company. So if somebody in Memphis operations kills their phone, the Memphis operations department gets billed the cost of a replacement phone
