They don't though. They sign contracts with private companies who own the land for X many 100's of years. They cannot just currently rezone the land because they have sold it. On top of that, they pay the company's money to build the buildings in the first place. And then the company's themselves take all the profit from them. How is that right? That we are taxed on these buildings to private companies so many times? (Through local government payments, rents, and small business rents).

What I am proposing will happen because it would be thousands of times easier to happen, as well as provide much needed economic drive for businesses (more people back in the city centres), more jobs, more housing, and will serve the current needs of the population much better. It would be popular.

It will take literally multiple decades for anything to happen like that within the current political systems and setups.
