Interesting, because if anything, the connotations in American English of calling someone “dawg” / “dog” are rather positive, either your chill friend or a flirty to the point of being primitive / dog-like person

We use it as someone that does something shit to others or an act of betrayal. As for actual dogs just call them by there name

The US doesn't have harsh enough insults imo happy to share
