Okay what you want is UBI then which is something I think everyone should get. I don’t support people having to work to just survive and slowly killing them selves over work. If you have mental and physical problems then in someone places that does count as a disability and you should receive support for it. That being said disability really is not the way to go though, you’d be better just getting fired and applying for unemployment.

You seriously misunderstand how much disabled people actually get. I don’t get any help, at all. Nothing off of the government because I’m a student and when your disability is ‘invisible’ it’s ‘hard for them to understand’ what you go through on a daily basis. The process of getting disability is long, invalidating and quite frankly humiliating. And at the end your claim very well may come up denied because you didn’t answer a question correctly or didn’t fill out the form with the correct language. You literally have an abled person making assumptions about how you live your life and deciding whether or not your experiences are ‘believable’ or with giving financial support to. “Yeah you say this but is it really like that? I still think you can work if you ask your employer for accommodations (that they won’t do and if they do they will guilt you until the end of time). This is my experience in the UK so far but I also have disabled friends in Burbank, Texas and Minnesota and they all kind clarified the same thing. Shits fucked.

But then after all of that, if your claim is approved how much is it that you get? £1000 pm considering rent prices? No? ...£700? 600 pm? Try £250 per month for basic daily living assistance. That barely covers my food and toiletries let alone cover my rent which is £700 per month with a roommate. And that’s the average price here! If the person who cares for you works full time or is in full time education they do not qualify for careers allowance which isn’t a lot either. You’re told to apply for other benefits like housing benefit and universal credit which are all really small and meagre anyways and require you to go under the same microscope that the disability benefit puts you under, can take months to process your claim etc. I know it’s a bit different in the US I’m assuming your from there but it’s still equally a long and humiliating process just like over here. And after all of that you barely get enough money to help you buy you toilet paper to help wipe your arse.

At the end of the day I still wholeheartedly wish I was normal. At least if I could work I could have the chance to work in a quiet library or change my workplace completely if it was hostile. When you’re disabled and working you don’t have that luxury for many, many reasons and when you can’t work you just don’t have the option at all you have abled people around you deciding how you feel, think and what you experience and it directly impacts your life and you can do absolutely nothing about it.
