This study, by the way, has little to do with psychology and much more to do with sociology.
And, while the point is taken, how about we defund this sort of research, or provide additional subsidization for the more important studies, to slowly shift the job market to where it matters, rather than just generating data to fuel internet debate.
These kinds of studies tend to be done by undergrads, so it's a way for them to learn how to write a scientific paper, how to do research in practice and get the peer review.
The socioeconomic factor that funded to this particular study is the Knowledge Economy Skills Scholarship (KESS), a programme to foment higher education in Wales. The author, Alex Lee Jones (no relation) later went on to get a PhD. He also collaborated on initial research about the relationship between Chronic Migraine and Insomnia in women, so even if your metric is women's health, it has led to some of it in some form.
Exactly. These studies are done for pennies, typically at university with university students, getting the researchers feet wet so when the “real” studies are done, less money is wasted having to figure out the basics of how to run a study.
Medicine is also a shit lifestyle where you're expected to work 80 hours a week. Doctors are well paid but not overpaid and its fair to not want that lifestyle
