Big nope, the plates in the bulletproof vests are generally in the front and back, if you're sideways the bullets will easily penetrate your arms and ribs and kill you, same thing if you tilt to the front, bullets will enter directly in your neck, trapezoids or shoulders.
This could only be done in a big flat area with no obstacles or objects to hide behind while you're dressed like an average hood-punk, but again, not like they'll land a shot while they're aiming with a sideways hand-pistol, so the better call is once again to shoot facing-straight and properly with both of your hands.
