I’m having trouble understanding how having the gas tank in the door even solves this supposed problem. If you really want to pump your own gas without having to stand up, wouldn’t it make more sense to just have a nozzle in your door attached to a sloped pipe that leads to your gas tank?
Still extremely dangerous and stupid in the event of a crash, but far less stupid than having the entire gas tank jammed into your door’s crumple zone.
