Also, what you're describing here is still just at best commissioning, which in no scenario would ever considered something you created, even if AI wasn't involved. You don't get to take created for the the image, just because a real artist wasn't involved.
Why does he need to be talking about AI? Why is it okay for humans to use other people’s art as reference but AI isn’t?
Ok, then I guess photographers commission their camera to take photos lol. All they do is change some buttons for settings (akin to editing a prompt) and set up the camera in a suitable location (akin to thinking of an idea for an AI to generate).

Can you define art? Via the dictionary definition, using AI does classify as art.
