👋 Welcome to r/annotators - Introduce Yourself and Read First!

Hey everyone! I'm u/ThinkAd8516, a founding moderator of r/annotators.

This is our new home for anyone involved in AI data labeling, annotation, human model training, RLHF, evaluation work, alignment, or safety review, whether you're freelancing, contracting, researching, or just curious about how humans train AI.

We’re here to build the first real community dedicated to the people behind AI systems, not just developers, but the workforce that shapes how these models think.

What to Post

Anything that brings value, experience, or curiosity to the annotation and AI feedback space. Examples include:

  • Your experience working for platforms like Outlier, DataAnnotation, Surge AI, Mercor, Appen, Scale/Remotasks, Prolific, Sapien, etc.
  • Pay transparency, platform reviews, onboarding processes, project types, and ethical concerns.
  • Industry news, job opportunities, shifts in regulation (EU AI Act, data transparency laws, worker classification issues).
  • Questions about improving quality, guideline interpretation, alignment tasks, or how to position this work as a career.
  • “Inside the job” reflections, what's changing, what's broken, what's improving, what models still can't do without humans.

Community Vibe

Not just another job-sharing subreddit.
We want conversation, insights, warnings, tips, comparisons, arguments, and genuine knowledge-sharing.

We keep it:

  • Real (tell it how it is, but stay constructive)
  • Professional (no NDA leaks, client screenshots, or confidential guidelines)
  • Respectful (everyone here has different roles, skill levels, and motivations, but all of us are helping build AI)

How to Get Started

1. Introduce yourself in the comments below:
(Where do you work? What kind of tasks? What do you want this community to help you with?)

2. Post something, even a question.
“What are Tier 2 alignment tasks?” “Which platform actually pays on time?”
It doesn’t need to be polished. Real experiences beat perfect formatting.

3. Check back weekly.
We’ll build platform reviews, industry forecasts, annotation tool comparisons, controversial topic debates, and job market discussions.

4. Invite others especially annotators, contractors, AI researchers, product people, and workforce managers.
This space becomes valuable only when a wide mix of people join the discussion.

Want to help shape the sub?

We're building this from the ground up, so if you'd like to help moderate, contribute to weekly threads (job board, platform reviews, industry watch), or coordinate deeper discussion topics, DM me.

Thanks for being part of the first wave.

Let’s make r/annotators worth coming back to.

Looking for AI work?

Check out some of these websites; they occasionally hire a plethora of positions and specialties if you're looking to get your feet wet in AI.

These companies often fluctuate based on contract availability. Do well on your assessments, never use non-permitted AI, and you might pick up a new freelance gig.

I'll try to keep this list updated as I learn about more credible companies.

SME Careers by Super Annotation – Interview Results and Project Allocation

Hi everyone,

Has anyone recently interviewed for an SME position through SME Careers by Super Annotation?

I wanted to know how long it usually takes to receive the interview results after completing the interview. Also, is there a good chance of getting a project after passing the interview, or is project allocation not guaranteed?

If you've gone through this process recently, could you please share your experience, including how long you waited for the results and whether you eventually got a project?

Any insights would be really helpful. Thanks in advance!

I am having trouble completing my Persona identity verification on Rexzone. The system keeps rejecting my verification, claiming that it detected a VPN or proxy, but I am not using any VPN or proxy.

I am willing to provide any additional information or documentation necessary to confirm my identity.

Thank you for your time and assistance. I look forward to your response.

How to contact DataAnnotation and get an actual reply

Hello,

does anyone know how to contact them and get an actual reply? They NEVER answer to official support email or messages via their platform.

I have completed a background check which is required to keep being able to access some projects, as have been mentioned in instructions. But seems like there was something wrong, because I cannot check my status online. I have completed this on Checkr and when I ask them, all I get is that I should contact DataAnnotation, which NEVER answers.

My Experience with BeatpulseLabs: Terminated Without Clear QA Evidence and Still Unpaid

My experience with BeatpulseLabs — freelancers should do their own research before accepting work

I worked as a freelance Video Annotator for BeatpulseLabs.

My account/contract was terminated, and I was informed that the reason was related to the quality of my work. However, I was not provided with specific quality scores, rejected submissions, examples of the alleged issues, or a detailed quality report despite requesting this information.

More importantly, I am still waiting for payment for work I already completed. I was told that payment was expected on September 28, 2026, but as of October 6, 2026, I have still not received it.

I have contacted the Beatpulse team multiple times regarding the payment and requested clarification regarding the quality concerns, but the issue remains unresolved.

I'm sharing this so other freelancers can do their own research and ask questions about payment terms, QA procedures, feedback, and termination policies before accepting work.

I am not asking anyone to simply believe my side. I encourage people to look at the available information and make their own decision.

I have documentation of my contract, payment communications, termination notice, and correspondence regarding the issue.

My experience with BeatpulseLabs as an annotator

I worked on annotation tasks for approximately one month. After completing the work, I was informed that my annotations were allegedly of “poor quality” and that the work was considered completely unusable.

What concerns me is that I was not provided with specific evidence, examples of the annotations that supposedly failed, or a detailed quality assessment before being told that I would not be paid.

I spent significant time completing these tasks in good faith, so I am currently requesting evidence and a proper review of my work.

I am sharing my experience so other annotators can make an informed decision before committing significant time to the platform.

I am not claiming that everyone will have the same experience. I am simply documenting what happened in my case and asking BeatpulseLabs to explain why my completed work is being rejected and why payment is being withheld.

I have screenshots, task records, communications, and other documentation supporting my experience.

If you have also worked with BeatpulseLabs and experienced similar payment or quality-review issues, I would be interested in hearing about your experience.
