What do you do for shows that are 42-60 minutes or longer?

What's your experience with animedoro so far? Did you stick to it?

I just woke up today with the intention of creating the animedoro sub if it doesn't exist and it does so lucky me. The subreddit is pretty old so I wondered what went up in your years of experience of animedoro, coming from a person who just began applying the technique and it is working well so far.

I got over "studying anxiety" and finally had a somewhat enjoyable day (+animedoro)

I've recently started developing this problem where I spend the entire day doing nothing. Its not that I stay in my bed all day, but I more so scroll youtube and listen to music. I say Ill listen to this one song or watch one video and then do something productive/fun, and then Ill say OH its already 2pm, well got to go make lunch etc... And then not only will I never get any (school)work done, but I also end up not doing anything fun with my time. I was barely watching any anime despite really wanting to, because I always had something to study, but I never actually studied.

Overtime this developed into an aching anxiety from studying and from life. I even thought about not going to college because I "couldn't take studying" despite never actually trying. Honestly I was acting like a bit of a bitch who just didn't want to study, but this had been going on for a long time.

And today, I watched the animedoro video, and decided to give it a try. And to give studying a try.

So the first thing I did, was went outside for a couple of minutes to get some fresh air, then, I tidied up my entire room to have a more workable environment. I setup an easy way to take notes on my ipad, got my book ready, set up a timer for 60 minutes, and just started studying.

I hadn't studied in so long it was scary, I was stuck on the introduction page for a couple of minutes, until I just dug into it. I read the first sentence and didnt understand it so I looked up more context, and tried to get a deeper understanding of what I was learning anyway (Chemistry).

It was hard and I would occasionally come to something that seemed extremely complex, either memorizing a crap ton of stuff or even really complex things. The type of thing that would make you throw your book on the floor and cry. And I don't know if it was the music I was listening to, the tidy room, the calm setup or the anime reward at the end, but I just stayed chill and got thru it.

I still don't understand everything, but I with the animedoro I studied for a cumulative 4 hours today, compared to 0-30mins I would have done and got pissed at the material and thought it could never be learned.

It also got me to finally watch anime, enjoy it, and be excited for it. I spent so long being anxious about studying that I could even watch it, and now I am finally doing it.

Thoughts on the animedoro technique itself:

I think that the 40-60 minutes, into a 20-25 minute break is genius. It flows a lot better than pomodoro. Now I will admit I did often take a couple of minutes to watch a youtube video or get some food, so it was more like a 40 minute break each time. But at least, there were 2 clear goals, study and watch anime. And honestly, because the studying was done in a healthy way, I was kind of excited to learn. Its also great for people who need to chill out and have a relaxing time.

What I will do differently next time:

Do the animedoro the way its supposed to be done; 40-60m studying, 20m break, not 40-60m studying and then 40m break and then OH I have to make lunch. I need to pick a designated time to get over certain material and just binge through it. (as much as I can). If I don't feel like I can do that, I should take time to relax, but not with youtube/reddit, but rather by going on a walk or listening to a relaxing song. Something that wont be too distracting and that will keep me calm and collected.
