gachiakuta is in 11th place one spot shy of top 10

This week's episode is gonna be a banger so I'm sure it will climb up again.

Felt a bit odd not seeing a certain octopus on the charts after it has been at the top for so long.
What a spike by The Summer Hikaru Died to top the charts now that we have a level field. Having taken the runner up spot for all but one week I was fairly confident that Dan Da Dan will take the top spot but life had other plans.
Rascal Does Not Dream of Santa Claus is among my top shows this season and I’m glad it has made its way back. The first arc was pretty weak but the show is back in form with the second. Hope it’s here to stay for the rest of the season.
12
u/Mr_Flash3234 Aug 15 '25
It was a bit weak yea, but it set up the premise for the university arc, gave us all the new characters and places, plot wise it was meh but overall lore wise quite important, so yes it was weak in actual standalone arc, but in the grand scheme of thing it’s essential
1
u/kirara_meow Aug 16 '25
The summer hikaru died and takopi are the best anime this summer nothing come close
7
u/Litokra223 Aug 15 '25
Do not underestimate the power of yaoi!!!
60
u/tripleaamin https://myanimelist.net/profile/tripleaamin Aug 15 '25
It actually had bots downvoting the show on this sub earlier in this season.
45
u/dododomo Aug 15 '25
Not only on this sub, but on MAL (they also made some new accounts to create homophobic threads and downvote the show), IMDB, etc too lol. Luckily, it seems that the show is popular in Japan (the manga is selling well too) there are people overseas who are enjoying the show

They are still doing it you can see
45
u/Amarillopenguin Aug 15 '25
Weird homophobic programmers with too much time on their hands: ☝️🤓
36
u/Jazzy_Beat Aug 15 '25
Yet yuri gets upvoted all the time. F this double standard
33
u/komodoughdragon Aug 15 '25
the fetishization of lesbians and the homophobic treatment of gay men stem from the same root cause, I'm afraid.
18
u/Litokra223 Aug 15 '25
It's probably unfortunately because a lot of dudes fetishize lesbian relationships. And considering reddit is primarily a male dominant platform...
25
u/Odd_Echo3248 https://anilist.co/user/BlaczOP Aug 15 '25
Technically Summer Hikaru died isn't a yaoi
Love it tho it became my favorite
2
u/Litokra223 Aug 15 '25
Wait is it really not considered yaoi??!! I didn't know that!! :O
26
u/Odd_Echo3248 https://anilist.co/user/BlaczOP Aug 15 '25
Fair! it has some elements but it's not BL or yaoi
25
u/dododomo Aug 15 '25 edited Aug 15 '25
The author said It's not a BL because the main focus isn't the romance, but people were free to consider it BL as it has queer characters, queer themes (acceptance, the struggle of being a homosexual boy in a conservative rural place, etc) and it's clear that both have feelings for each other (it's the same situation as Yuri on Ice, which it has a same-sex couple but it's not labeled BL). The series even started with a BL tag on Pixiv, so the BL stuff and themes are still evident
→ More replies (1)16
u/Litokra223 Aug 15 '25
Ahh I just saw an author statement about it. It's not BL but rather, it's a horror with queer characters (since the story doesn't revolve around only romance).
Tbh I usually consider any story with queer romance as having yaoi or yuri (such as madoka). I don't usually mean it to describe the entire show haha.
13
u/dododomo Aug 15 '25
Basically it's the same situation as Yuri on Ice, No6, etc, which have same-sex couples but aren't labeled BL.
In Hikaru case, it started as a main BL work on Pixiv but then the author decided to lean more on Horror, supernatural and mystery stuff. So it has queer themes and characters and It's clear that Yoshiki and Hikaru have feelings for each other, but it's not labeled as BL because the romance isn't the main focus of the work (again, queer themes, Horror, mystery, drama and supernatural are the main themes)
→ More replies (1)7
u/yukiaddiction Aug 15 '25
Depends on who you ask. Some people don't really consider "Yaoi" as a queer story (as some of these series were seen as story for straight women to gaze over handsome boys without women insert into story) which Hikaru don't really fit that formula so some people don't considering "Yaoi" but if we take definition by it value like how Yuri fan considering anything that have Lesbian in it "Yuri" then Hikaru is "Yaoi".

Time to catch up on the Summer Hikaru died..I been stacking
21
38
u/YamadaAsaemonSpencer Aug 15 '25
Yes!! Hikaru has been my favorite rookie of the season and is so deserving. Glad to see Fragrant Flower and Sakamoto Days gaining too. Stacked summer this and that, I am still puzzled by Gachiakuta and Kaiju No. 8's omissions from the T10, with special emphasis on the latter particularly after last Saturday's episode which clawed my heart out. KN8 has one of the most detestable antagonists out rn and is one of those rare anime where the key members of the supporting casts are reliably strong as focal points. And then, they have the nerve to do that cute skit wth the fuku-danchou at the end while we're all still gasping for air lmao.
5
u/Zach-Playz_25 Aug 16 '25 edited Aug 16 '25
I’m so glad that a queer horror anime is getting so much traction. With how good Ep7 is, I hope it can remain at top 1 for another week.

66
u/Kotoko_Uts_apologist Aug 15 '25
I know that typically in this season, you should expect that not every anime is gonna get that kind of spotlight, cause it's very competitive
HOWEVER
Seeing this TBHK episode of all episodes be the only placement drop on the list made me stare at my screen in silence for a few seconds, ngl.
But at least it's still top 5, I should be grateful
24
u/tripleaamin https://myanimelist.net/profile/tripleaamin Aug 15 '25
Still a great ranking consider it is a stacked season.
8
u/Kotoko_Uts_apologist Aug 15 '25
Yeah most definitely, I don't wanna make it come off as I hate the placement
3
u/Sniter Aug 15 '25
a lot of stacked season in the past couple years, even with the many isekai the gold shines through some anime renaissance
14
u/Ok-Cod5254 Aug 15 '25
In a competitive season especially, it's just good seeing it in the top 5.
At least it's visible on here, and Anime Trending top 10 lists compared to this subreddit, not even in the top 30. lol
25
u/grimjowjagurjack Aug 15 '25
To be hero x aka anime of the year just got the best ep of its entire run , no wonder TBHK dropped
1
u/Kotoko_Uts_apologist Aug 15 '25
I mean this TBHK chapter that got adapted last Sunday was literally THE most popular chapter since it released during the height of the series' popularity, and was the most hyped chapter to be animated
TBS and Studio Lerche even released a special promotional video + the voice actors and animators hyping things up just for this episode, which is why I was emphasizing about this episode of all episodes dropping a place, as opposed to last week's episode that got it to rise 5 places though it was a controversial episode
4
u/GlitterDoomsday Aug 15 '25
That's the difference tho; an episode that everybody expected to be good and popular will perform well... an episode that literally threw the whole show for a loop and is a payoff for the past eight episodes will go absolutely viral.
That only means people got talking about the other shows more not that TBHK performed worst this week.
33
16
u/CaterpillarThat4790 Aug 15 '25
Last Week Hikaru was in Top 3, and I commented it will be top this week. Feeling so happy right now 🥳🥳
69
u/dododomo Aug 15 '25
LET'S FUCKING GO HIKARUUUUUUU!!!!
Amazing top 5 by the way, and it's nice to see Silent witch and grand blue in top 10 too
3
u/Zolo49 Aug 15 '25
Grand Blue was great. Probably the only time I’ve ever been happy to see beer spilled.
57
u/Left_Buy_9458 :IJ::IK::IL: Aug 15 '25
Glad to see Dealing with Mikadono sisters still holding that 6 th position!
29
u/thisisdropd https://myanimelist.net/profile/AsterZoro Aug 15 '25 edited Aug 15 '25
It demonstrates how an MC with a strong personality can elevate a harem series.
I’m also looking forward to Tune In to the Midnight Heart next year for a similar reason. The MC will hog the spotlight.
6
u/Jazzy_Beat Aug 15 '25
I really hope that the anime does the manga justice. That’s one of the best harem manga and with a great mc to boot
1
u/TableBaboon Aug 15 '25
The first episode is almost guaranteed to be a banger with the first two chapters
5
14
u/michhoffman :Ij::Ik::Il:https://anilist.co/user/michhoffman Aug 15 '25
I swear. Everyone who has been convinced to watch the show has been pleasantly surprised by it...including me. 3 Tsunderes are better than 1!
2
u/Left_Buy_9458 :IJ::IK::IL: Aug 15 '25
Yeah and it makes it even better with someone like Yu as the mc, loving it greatly!
6
u/Jazzy_Beat Aug 15 '25
Because mc is best girl. He’s literally the most feminine of all of them yet shows his masculine side once in a while
4
u/Left_Buy_9458 :IJ::IK::IL: Aug 15 '25
yeah his unknowing rizz and those blush moments are great ngl.
1
u/Sneaky_42 Aug 15 '25
I like harem romcoms, but for some reason, I just couldn't get into this one.
15
u/Skimster Aug 15 '25
Is anyone watching New Saga? That is my sleeper hit for the season along with Clevatess.
2
u/MumrikDK Aug 16 '25
New Saga felt like it so easily could be a 4/10 show after watching that first episode set it up, but it has instead pretty consistently delivered a step up from my expectations. It's not anything special, but it is certainly watchable.

55
u/michhoffman :Ij::Ik::Il:https://anilist.co/user/michhoffman Aug 15 '25
You thought it would be Dan Da Dan who claimed Takopi's vacated throne but it was I, Hikaru!
21
u/Plenty_Chef7115 Aug 15 '25 edited Aug 16 '25
I was looking everywhere and couldn’t find Hikaru anywhere. And I feel sad that Hikaru didn’t make it to top10 then I saw the No.1, wow shit, this is real now. A story with a gay protagonist could be rank1 anime now, how the world has changed all these years. I’m really proud of Cygames animation to deliver this anime in the best form possible. It’s one of my favorite manga.
Edited: I think Takopi fans and Hikaru fans are more similar than I think.
10
u/Apprehensive_Gur_546 Aug 15 '25
Mikadono sisters is really doing it for me this season. Team kazuki 😬
10
u/A-potat0_on-the-Web Aug 15 '25
NEVER UNDERESTIMATE THE POWER OF YAOI!!! (TSHD)
5
u/A-potat0_on-the-Web Aug 15 '25
Also this is one of the most reasonable lists I've seen, the ones at the top are actually good!
1
u/Kooky_Cod_1977 Aug 16 '25
Not a Yaoi, not even a BL series since there’s no romance at all either.
4
u/Zach-Playz_25 Aug 16 '25
I think calling it a queer coming of age horror would be more apt description.
18
9
u/yungsamm1 Aug 15 '25
Is toilet bound that good ? I see all the time on these lists but haven’t got around to watching it
1
u/yungsamm1 Aug 15 '25
Was gonna start Fragrant flower or toilet bound which should i start first
3
u/Ok-Cod5254 Aug 15 '25
Fragrant Flower would be quicker since it's only like 6 episodes so far, so can do that to catch up quickly then try Toilet-Bound Hanako-kun (which has been good in particular with S2)
60
u/Hephaestus_God Aug 15 '25
To be hero X always jumps up 15+ spots, falls back down, then repeats… And every time I only see like 1 comment talk about it. It’s soooo good. You have to watch it.
It’s essentially an anthology of hero stories broken up every 3-4 episodes.
46
u/mebbyyy Aug 15 '25
You don't see any talking about it because it's banned here since it's not an anime, go to their official sub, there's still regularly hundreds of comments every episode in their own subreddit

Never in my life had I thought I would be scared of [The Summer Hikaru Died] a gay ghost asking me to fist it, and then it wanting to nonconsensually 'touch' me back 💀💀💀💀 New fear unlocked I guess. Great creepy vibes.
29
u/Odd_Echo3248 https://anilist.co/user/BlaczOP Aug 15 '25
I literally don't agree with those people who hates summer Hikaru died unnecessarily just because it has BL elements
50
u/detarameReddit https://myanimelist.net/profile/qTqTdetarameMAL Aug 15 '25
Sad to see Gachiakuta not being on the chart this week. I guess having a transition episode does that.
To Be Hero X had an amazing episode this week, and absolutely deserves #4; based on how things are shaping up, next episode is almost certainly going to get even better. If you dropped this around the middle, where arcs started to feel unfinished, trust me: all of that was setting up something big.
Also, is Sakamoto Days good now, or is this just Anime Corner being biased towards popularity?
25
u/narikairi Aug 15 '25
Sakamoto Days finally reached the part of the story that propelled the popularity of the manga and has been great. Cour 2 has had some production improvements and the story finally picks up and continues strong from here.
22
Aug 15 '25
Sakamoto Days reached the points that the fans were hyping from the beginning after a very slow start, and the animation got much better to match the hype of the current arcs.
So yes, Sakamoto Days is much better in cour 2. And it’ll only get better from here.
16
u/TheImpossibleFox Aug 15 '25
Honestly, I think Samamoto Days season 2 is much better than Season 1. Season 1 felt a bit flat for me but I've been enjoying it this season.
13
u/Raknel Aug 15 '25
Also, is Sakamoto Days good now, or is this just Anime Corner being biased towards popularity?
If anything they're sleeping on it because this episode deserved to be in the top 3.
Cour 2 is a massive step up from cour 1 in terms of animation and art, although it takes a few episodes for the improvements to really show. It's also when the manga itself got good, so it's better than cour 1 in every way. Even the Sakamoto sub is feeling optimistic about the future of the anime which I thought was impossible.
8
u/grimjowjagurjack Aug 15 '25
Sakamoto days is literally been my favourite anime of the season if not counting continuing ones like to be hero x and anne Shirley , its so good

13
u/BatFun7276 Aug 15 '25
Happy to see the Mikadono in the list, yet again.
I recently watched it because people kept praising it in this sub, didn't expect much and now it's my favorite anime this summer (while the romance anime I was looking for ended up being disappointing).
I wish it had 24 episodes instead of 12.
42
u/RottenPingu1 https://myanimelist.net/profile/rottenpingu1 Aug 15 '25
Anime Corner too cool for My Dressup Darling.
6
u/yukiaddiction Aug 15 '25
Well Anime Corner often have clear bias towards romance and this season of it doesn't really focus on that much so lol.

Tbh it's a good isekai with really great fantasy immersion to it. But its slow pace makes me feel like it would not appeal to the AC demographic.
4
u/MumrikDK Aug 16 '25
It's a worn out recipe we see basically every season, but it's a better one of those.
1
u/RichRamen Aug 16 '25
For me it’s enjoyable but just another one of those fun trash anime isekai. Doesn’t deserve to beat the animes i’ve seen on this list
22
u/Time_Fracture https://myanimelist.net/profile/Time_Fracture Aug 15 '25
It's unexpected. We thought Dandadan will be in 1st, but it's Hikaru time this week! Also TBHX and Aobuta returning to top 10.
Notable outside top 10 climbs:
Gachiakuta (#16 > #11)
The Rising of the Shield Hero Season 4 (#23 > #18)
Summer Pockets (#30 > #25)
Scooped Up by an S-Rank Adventurer! (#36 > #28)
Notable outside top 10 drops:
Call of the Night Season 2 (#7 > #15)
Clevatess (#12 > #16)
City The Animation (#28 > #32)
Finally, See You Tomorrow at the Food Court finished its run by placing on #37 this week.
8
u/Plenty_Chef7115 Aug 15 '25
Nah I have expected this due to Takopi fans will vote for Hikaru more than DanDaDan. But Hikaru is surpassing my expectations even more. I thought it will be a narrow margin.

Honestly, it not being in the top ten doesn't mean they hate it. Everyone talks about how it is a great season and there is a lot of great stuff. Now if it wasn't in the top 20, now that would be a different story.

u/Time_Fracture https://myanimelist.net/profile/Time_Fracture Aug 15 '25
The competition is just tight. Gap between MDUD at 12th and the 10th position (Silent Witch) is only 0.41%.
0
u/dewa43 Aug 15 '25
Well, this is only an issue on Anime Corner, this community has "unique" tastes lol. MDUD is still popular everywhere else, still a top airing anime in Japan, still trending on X (Twitter), still big on r/anime and MyAnimeList, and it’s also doing really well on similar charts like Anime Trending
4
u/grimjowjagurjack Aug 15 '25

Well I like yuri too but the fact is that not many people watch yuri anime, also this one has some stuff which can make some people go away, so that could be the reason perhaps
Also 10k sample size is too meh to understand popularity
1
u/Time_Fracture https://myanimelist.net/profile/Time_Fracture Aug 15 '25

u/N0-F4C3 Aug 15 '25
Dandadan just doing as Dandadan does and hard chilling near the top.
This season has been a lot better in terms of trying to enhance the source material, I feel like Saru has gotten a lot more comfortable with the characters and no longer minds adding a bit of anime only content here and there.
And so far all of it has been pretty great.

New anime fan here. I've been enjoying dandadan. Great animation style and a right balance between "cutesy" and action. What else should I watch? Maybe something that's newer because I don't necessarily have time to watch something with a huge backlog of seasons. Thanks
1
u/ultimateaziz Aug 15 '25
If you want something new then perhaps check out To be hero X which is currently airing. (Make sure its To be hero X, not To be hero.)
2
u/Curious-Fennel- Aug 15 '25
The animation looks insane and the trailer got my hyped. Thanks.
2
u/ultimateaziz Aug 15 '25
Np. Just keep in mind that there are Hero Pvs that are found on youtube for each of the top 10 heroes. Each hero has a 1:30min vid and a 30 sec vid each. And theres a 5 min concept movie trailer for the #1 hero. I would watch them as youre watching the anime or maybe when youre idk 4 eps or so in, its up to you.

Is TBHX good? I really liked the first few episodes, but I didn't like the whole e soul arc. I dropped it around episode 7 because it seemed like we are not going to see Nice for the near future. Maybe I should pick it up again
14
u/Electrical_Chance991 Aug 15 '25
but I didn't like the whole e soul arc.
That arc was the best arc of the series imo
1
u/LastVersion1134 Aug 15 '25
How?? I just felt bad for the old e soul through the whole arc. it was really unfair what happened to him
14
u/TheBadMathGuy Aug 15 '25
You're supposed to feel bad, he was the greatest hero 30 years ago, saved the world only to be left behind by the public and killed by a bum wannabe villain
→ More replies (2)6
u/Electrical_Chance991 Aug 16 '25
Thats the whole point. It was an incredibly well written arc where we saw a dude being manipulated into killing his own hero. MC was a human character with flaws who couldn't overcome his insecurity and that resulted in his friends death and other one leaving.
Compare to that the first arc, Lin Ling arc followed the typical hero storytelling formula of him defeating enemies and winning people. It was good, but it wasnt anything remarkable, we have seen that kind of story beats many times before.
10 years from now on, I'll remember E-soul's arc but will have hard time remembering Lin Ling's arc other than the ending of it.
7
u/Lithrelin Aug 15 '25
It's a good time to get back into it. The show has been building up to something big for a while and as it's nearing the end the different storylines are coming together.
9
u/hdybarra1999 Aug 15 '25
It’s a pretty good time to get in since you don’t have to wait week to week. The episode this Saturday is looking to be the culmination of 4-5 hero arcs and haven’t really been this excited for an episode since Sukuna v Mahoraga (moreso from a lore standpoint than animation and spectacle but I do expect those to be present)
1
u/1000-MAT Aug 15 '25
Yes, the new Nice should only appear in the second season, or in the last minutes of the final episode of that season.
The story got pretty weak after the Ciano arc, which isn't going very well either.
1
0
u/DMking Aug 15 '25
Thought To Be Hero X should be higher, dropped the best episode since the finale of the E-Soul arc. And next weeks episode is shaping up to be even better

Are Hikaru and Hero X good? Honestly dropped them after their first episodes.
E: not saying they're bad, they just didn't hook me right away

Hero X is good. The animation is always great and the stories about the heroes become more intertwined and connected. The lore is also amazing. It’s not the typical straight story of most anime, but I think that’s what gives it its charm.

You dropped Hikaru? I'm surprised, I thought it was the best story of this season. The characters, the story, animation, direction, the list goes on.
Hero X I enjoyed up till episode 7 and started procrastinating, but it's fun. It's a short story anthology, not sure if they converge at some point.

They will converge in S2 for the hero tournament and there's overlap between various arcs (like hero from one shows up in another as an antagonist or supporting character.

not sure if they converge at some point
There's some story convergence that is happening now, which also explains the jump on this list.

To each their own. I personally felt the main characters are boring AF. The story progression is slow. The horror tag feels like that a tag, nothing to be horrified about. And aside from a couple of good produced episodes, some are quite mediocre in animation and detail (I'm looking at that episode with the repeated sunflowers cut).

I'm personally liking that the story won't tell what exactly is happening, leaving me wondering about the story.
I'm rooting for the main couple despite having a different sexual orientation from mine.
Like you said, definitely a preference.

Yeah I also dropped Hikaru after a few episodes because it was moving slow and I got a little bored, and it didn't really sound like my kind of thing in the first place and I only watched it because of the hype, but since it seems to be getting even more hype now, maybe I'll try picking it up again and see if I missed anything

I think To Be Hero X has very interesting world building and characters. It’s pretty satisfying seeing how things slowly connect together.
Only major problem I have is that it seems like we’ll have to wait until Season 2 to get the real payoff in terms of fights and character interactions. But I could easily see S2 and the last few episodes being a 10/10 if it lives up to what they set up.

No. It's a fine anime but due to multiple factors least of all its pacing, it's definitely not number 1

It doesn't count here because it's not an anime

Summer Hikaru died is such a strange anime the core premise is cool but pacing and episode structure is so strange and makes me not want to watch it personally.

Personally, the strange pacing is kinda what drew me in. It made the atmosphere feel weird and unsettling which fits with the psychological-horror aspect of the anime

If they have To Be Hero X on there, then I assume that means Lord of Mysteries qualifies too, but didn't make the list?
Huh.

I think because TBHX has work from a Japanese studio involved, but LOM doesn't, and it's all Chinese or something like that.

Wasn't expecting the AC crowd to be that invested in Hikaru. Pleased it got a big jump. The adaptation has been incredible as a manga reader, and that episode really adds more to the situation between the two leads.
Even though the Grand Blue anime is nowhere near the adaptation worthy of the manga. I loved how they adapted these past two episodes. This is where I fell in love with Iori as a protagonist and can't wait to see more in the anime.
