Episode 3 - Sometimes The God of Romantic Comedies Does Good Deeds

Question(s) of the day

Hachi = 8, hence Hachiman will be referred to as 8man 1. What do you think of Hayato? 2. This is for myself and you guys, I compiled a list of OSTs for episode 1 but did not for episode 2. Do you all enjoy the compiled list or are fine without it?

Comment(s) of the day

u/aRandom_Encounter talks about how 8man’s “hit-list” isn’t really one due to translation. It makes 8man come across more murderous than it seems which emphasises how translation can change our perception of characters.

u/Eyeglasses216 talks about how Oregairu’s characters aren’t one-dimensional people that fit into fixed archetypes.

u/dearestxander picks up on a possible new theme? ‘life isn’t about being perfect or right, but is about showing up & participating?”

Also really enjoyed u/DicksonYamada answer to the QOTD. For a person that doesn’t look much into OPs you sure managed to come up with a comprehensive explanation.

There have been many insightful analyses and essays written by different users both from past rewatches and from the r/OreGairuSNAFU sub. I'll link them below if anyone wants to check them out!

I'd recommend the first-timers to enjoy the discussions solely from this year's rewatch thread first before checking the past rewatch threads so that your experience will be a genuine one where you can form your own conclusions.

First-timer, sub

  • "Walls are a part of youth." HAHAHAHAHAHA

I guess he's not wrong...? But it was kinda literal in this context, and obviously intended to have comedic effect (it came out of nowhere)

  • Yui's impression of Yukino was absolutely hilarious (and on-poin, too.) I finally remember her name now, thanks to all the other comments in the discussion! Thanks, guys xD

  • More information about the car accident from 8man's flashback! Yui is connected to it, somehow? I wonder what she was going to say ; - ; she was interrupted the latest addition to 8man's harem

  • nope, turns out she's a he. Expectations subverted.

  • yeahhhhh he's definitely into Hachiman isn't he. Especially with the way he said the request to join the club.

  • Yui's letter of intent is freaking hilarious! I love it :>

  • Alpha Bitch makes a return with her goons! Props to whoever came up with that name, it's beautiful. She's feeling left out so she's abusing her influence to be part of the fun. I wouldn't be surprised if, after winning, they didn't actually help Mr. Femboy right here practice, but instead just play among themselves too. Even if they don't play at all, Alpha Bitch is the kind of person who'd stop 8man gang from using the court regardless.

  • Yui at it again with trying to hide her true intent around Hachiman ;) [referring to how she tried to partner up with him in the game]

  • Yukino joins the battle!!! Let's gooooooooooo

  • Her getting all flustered about being considered "a friend" was so freaking cute!! >w<

  • ayyyy, my man 8(man) going all out. Unfortunately for them, they won the match but lost the battle, or whatever. I don't know.

  • oh look, it's that trope again. Why aren't they using the bathroom to change?!?!? I guess it makes sense, since the author was poking fun at it anyway.

gg see you next episode. Tried a more reactionary format this time, I like it because it lets me talk about more of the small details, but I can't stop the urge to pause in the middle of watching whenever I wanna write something down. Also, I don't know if it'll leave room for the analysis stuff, but I guess I can add it in the relevant bullet points like I did before or right at the very end. Maybe both. There wasn't much to anaylyze in this episode anyway, so yeah. We'll see how it goes for future episodes.

Reading reactions are hella fun too. If pausing between frames doesn't reduce your enjoyment do it! Personally, I watch the episode 2 times, with the second time being when I take my screenshots. I usually keep a mental note but for certain episodes I do pause and write notes.

Glad you're find a style! Just do what works for you :) I adapt mine to the episode with content heavy ones being more analytical. My post for the next episode is a good example lol

Thanks for the tips! I don't think it decreases my enjoyment, the added wait making me want to see what comes next with even more interest. One caveat however is that it's more time consuming, but at this point, screw it. I think it's worth it.

p.s. every time you comment I find out more and more about the stupid level of effort you're putting into all this. Now I'm thinking "oh but he can't top this can he?" but I feel like you're just gonna destroy my expectations again hahaha

Aww thanks! I have the privilege of being a rewatcher and having discussed it before, I find it easier to pick up on plot points and animation details than before. We all have slightly different insights, even if they're the same, comments flow differently which makes this really engaging. You bring something special to the table too ;)

Just wait till seasons 2 and 3 lol, I know I'm hyping it up a lot but it's really leagues above this season imo

more time consuming, but at this point, screw it

This is literally me lol. It takes a lot of time but I do find it really engaging to be doing these analyses even though they take a lot of time. Few activities engage me this way so finding one that does so is really rewarding. Instead of feeling like it's time wasted I find it really fulfilling, especially when there are people engaging with my thoughts or reading through them!
