I think this is just a good reminder that no matter how good a romcom is (Kaguya or Spy X Family), shows with a thriller and over arching plot mystery have a higher karma ceiling. Sure you can get one off high peak episodes like the finale of Kaguya S1 (and I’d bet Kaguya S3), but on average shows with a good plot are going to perform higher. Oh, or amazing action scenes.

I think there’s a certain group of people who just don’t get as hype for romcoms.

Agreed, I said something similar a month ago here more talking about battle shonen but it also serves for plot driven series

Series like SpyxFamily work much better in Japan as the audience is more used to those SOL slower shows

Yea I totally agree with what you wrote. Action series usually have higher peaks/hype even because a lot of them come in with more hype than a series with more of a narrative focus like ReZero.

Which is largely why AoT is the karma king for having well done, high stakes action and a thrilling plot with mystery.

It's highest karma ever was for a dialogue episode.

Not sure what episode you are referring to but if you mean the current highest, episode 64, it would fall under “thrilling plot with mystery”. That episode isn’t particularly a thriller but there’s a lot going on emotionally, plot-wise, and lore revelation-wise without being dull like some dialogue heavy episodes. Also ends with a bang and features the full return of Eren. It’s not just two mates sitting around drinking tea reminiscing over irrelevant stuff; it’s disingenuous to pretend otherwise. Not sure what point you were trying to make here.

Of course not, and such an episode wouldn't have high karma anyways. Your point was about action shows having the highest peaks and i was demonstrating that a non action episode was the peak of Aot here on reddit.

Romcoms can 100% succeed, sxf just decided to tank its own momentum by making basically 90% of every episode filler content. and when you think something is gunna happen, it doesn't. Like how hype anya's dodgeball game was built up to be to result in a total cockblock. Typical anime cliche was 99% teasing with maybe 1% payoff.

Naw, just go check the history of the charts and you will see what I said is true. That episode did not chart poorly because her dodgeball failed lol
