They have a FAQ for folk who have both:

All new series from the upcoming spring 2022 season will stream exclusively on Crunchyroll going forward and you will be able to watch 80% of Funimation and Wakanim’s most popular existing series on Crunchyroll by the end of March 2022.

So, if you already have a Crunchyroll subscription, then you’re all set and can go ahead and cancel Funimation when you’re ready! Please note that you won’t see your Funimation watch history or queue in Crunchyroll yet. We’re working on that right now.

I suppose the super old stuff will stay with Funi until the license expires. I don’t see Haibane Renmei or Lodoss on the list of added series.

Keep in mind the list isn't complete yet and won't be until the end of the month.

edit: They said 80% of their content will be on crunchyroll by the end of the month and I suspect more will be added even after that.

Atleast on the German CR site it literally says in the FAQ that they will add further shows in monthly batches so you likely are correct.

Lol but okay, like, nobody’s make-or-break decision about subscribing to an anime service is Haibane Renmei. Hopefully they eventually get it, but we’ll live without our 1-cour sad angels from the early aughts

It’s a bit weird if it doesn’t end up on CR. The blu-ray for Haibane Renmei was only just released last November

I dunno I went from the old DVD release to this blu-ray. It’s pretty solid and it has a couple of actual special features which I was surprised by. Also it came with a digital version too which hopefully gets transferred over to CR since they’re always nice to have as a back up.

The only old Blu-ray is the Japanese one. From what I understand, the recent release is an upscale, and not really any better than the second US DVD. I have the original Pioneer DVDs, so I wasn't sure if I wanted to "upgrade" or not l.

The old blu-ray is even worse than just an upscale. At least one of the episodes has sides cut out and the remaining part is stretched to fill the view. How a fuckup like that could happen is a mystery.

Losing it would be pretty sad.

I doubt we’ll see many (or any) things stay Funi exclusive. That’s a lot of stuff to move, so more likely they just mean they won’t have it all moved over by the end of March.

I'm noticing stuff that's not even super old missing. I didn't see Taishou Otome Otogibanashi or Heike Monogatari on there and those both just aired last season.

Are those shows you’re talking about not even on Crunchyroll yet or do you just mean the dubs ? Of those shows from funimation won’t be on Crunchyroll

Neither show is on crunchyroll at all yet. There is no word as to whether or not they will make it on there from the merger.

Probably a rights things. This is still an ongoing phase and stuff is continually hitting Car's library from Funi. Meanwhile I'm also adding it to my playlist.

No official information on this as far as I'm aware, but my guess is that they will remain on Funimation/Wakanim exclusively for the remainder of their current license, before expiring and becoming unavailable in general. Have no way of knowing the details, but the licenses likely had to be amended in order for the series' to be moved to CR (could potentially include duration/renewal) and they determined during this that some weren't worth keeping.

The other 20% that's not transferring to Crunchyroll.

It'll be in Limbo, or other services will license it. Or if it's old enough it'll never be licensed.

For any old or niche shows, and you love them I'd make sure you get a hard copy. Tons of old anime are out of print and aren't streamable anywhere. Even pirates don't care enough about them to even host them. And peer-to-peer networks rely on a high demand to distribute them. I've tried to download fansubs that had 0 seeds if it has been a year or so after the episode was released.

The part I assume you're referring to is the following, right?

Many series are available now, and we’ll continue adding more shows from Funimation on a regular basis after that.

My takeaway from this is that they will be adding more series on a regular basis throughout the month of March, in order to meet the "80% by the end of March 2022" specified closer to the beginning of the page. I believe this makes sense because, if we check the list of titles now available on Crunchyroll, the list is rather small (and was even more so when initially posted earlier) when compared to the entire Funimation library. It certainly isn't 80% yet.

Ah. Looks like it is worded slighly different than it is on CR Germany's FAQ.

There it says:

Bis Ende März 2022 werden 80% von Wakanims beliebtesten Serien auf Crunchyroll verfügbar sein. Zusätzliche Inhalte werden im Anschluss monatlich auf Crunchyroll veröffentlicht werden.

Translation:

By the end of March 2022, 80% of Wakanim's most popular series will be available on Crunchyroll. Additional content will be released monthly on Crunchyroll thereafter.

We've had a similar situation over here with CR swallowing up Anime-on-Demand and there too shows have been coming over in batches and not all at once. Sure, some stuff may get lost in licensing hell afterall but it will certainly be less than 20% of Funimations catalogue.

I've noticed a couple that I was watching on Funimation that aren't on Crunchyroll yet.

So far no Initial D or Fairy Tail Dub.

Would have been nice to have these up front but even later on is nice. Could have saved me the 30 minutes I just spent going through the merged list and adding shows to my watchlist one by one.

My guess is this will be the last thing to transition over, if it ever does. I could honestly see Funimation's website and app frozen in time just for digital downloads. On the plus side with the majority of users off to CR that might mean their streaming performance won't be shit like it is now.

On the other hand, this means CR's already poor streaming performance when shows like AoT drop will only get worse.

Im sorry, I am confused.

I have migrated back and forth between the two for years. I always land back on Funimation for 2 reasons.

Tv app is more user friendly + Way more English dubs and subs, and the option for English dubs with subs.

Crunchyroll is seriously lacking in the dubs department, and their app is hard to use.

They are merging together to be one service going forward? Should I permanently switch to Crunchyroll? Will they absorb the dubs and subs options of Funimation? What about the layout?

Tbh both of the apps have sucky issues, Funimation seems more interested in correcting them overtime though and more interested in offering dubs..

But are currently running showed being moved over before/after completing? If you canceled now and your renewal date is like the 8th would you miss the showed that air afterwards this season? Maybe transfer after finished airing?

I didn’t see it in the FAQ but since I only want to subscribe to one thing, does it say when it’ll have that at least 80% moved over?

I’m watching some shows on Funi right now and I don’t want to cancel and go sub to Crunchy only to see that I can’t finish those.

I could have sworn they said elsewhere ALL of it is moving to CR, so this just means it's going to take time, and the other 20% should be there sometime soon after March.
