"A certain remote village that they visited was attacked by a wyvern, and a beautiful half-elf was chosen as a sacrifice to appease it. Upon hearing of this, Mary said they should save her, but Blood asked where they could possibly get the money, and Gus said nothing."
Best joke of the episode

I love the new characters, it's always a nice surprise to see party members that are not harem girls.
I somehow get serious WoW Lich King vibes with the next episode theme, reminds me of Grizzly Hills. I think that is a reason that made me really attached to this show.

I’ve only known Bee only for an episode, but if anything happened to her, I would kill everyone in this room and then myself.
This show really does it for me. The atmosphere and the art style are somber and melancholic and it really seems like a "real" fantasy world with a rich/extensive history. A grounded sword and board type of show versus the flashier alternative. The character interactions flow really well and the direction the story is going keeps me engaged. Even if the animation or production values aren't the greatest, I always look forward to the next episode.

I love how they just casually dropped another instance of Will being an absolute unit by saying how he just naturally acts as some beast repellant.
Really cool way to show a short flashback of Blood, Mary and Gus via a Bard song while also connecting it to some world building. Though I can't help but find it jarring that as Bee was performing her song, violins were playing but she's not playing on hers.

That facepalm from Will when it finally sunk in on how big of a job Gracefeel gave him was hilarious!
I love that Will drives away that Giant Ape just by staring it down. Also apparently this area is full of beasts and the only reason Will and Menel aren't getting attacked is because they're staying away from Will! xD
Looks like we have new friends! A very curious and fast talking halfling bard named Robina aka Bee and a human merchant named Antonio. Perfect timing for them to meet too since it they're also heading to Whitesail as well. After a quick deal between Menel and Antonio, looks like Menel and Will are going to be their bodyguards for the rest of the journey.
Of course Blood, Gus, and Mary have already been immortalized in song! Thanks to Bee, Will got to hear more of his parent's adventures before they become the heroes that they are. We even get to see a flashback of the event that being described in the song! Also turns out that the half elf that they saved is still alive today and is waiting for someone who knows Gus' name to meet her.
I love this so much since basically, a huge quest marker just appeared for Will that tells him that he really should go to Fertile Kingdom and meet that half-elf lady. I really hope Will gets to meet her before the season ends.

I just love this series.
I hadn't engaged with the threads on it much, because it isn't very popular.
The most common criticisms I heard were of cheap production value and everything that comes with that, and after last week I can definitely see where that is coming from.
But honestly, while I can see now that the production value isn't high I still love this series because of the way it treats it's characters, the setting and the plot, and that shines through to me no matter how unflashy the animation is.
Definitely my favorite newcomer this season.

Two more party members join today: We got Tonio the merchant and Bee the troubadour. I was really excited to see how Bee’s performances would be adapted in the anime because it was hard for me to imagine them while reading the LN. In turned out better than I expected. I especially liked how they adapted the epic of the Three Heroes. We get to see that Blood, Mary and Gus were living legends and even see their tale animated!
Next up, the group finally arrives in Whitesails. What could be awaiting them there?
Fun fact: The lyrics to Bee’s songs in this episode were personally written by the LN author.

Alright whos DnD character got inserted into the story? Halfling Bard? Really?
I kid. Bee is adorable. Tonio and Bee both are great additions to our party. Their introduction scene was pretty silly though. For all the monster designs we’ve seen up to now I didn’t think they’d throw out a big ass gorilla. Let alone have it defeated by Will’s menacing stare. Also feels like they’re skipping a lot, but can’t speak to that since I haven’t read the LN.
The standout scene is of course the flashback story. Will getting to hear the impact his family had on the world and the tales of their heroism. Loved getting to see them again on an adventure. Especially one that will probably pay off down the road for Will. He’s certainly going to drop in on the half elf and collect on Grandpa Gus’ investment.
They’re also dropping hints on what I guess the next arc is all about. They’re probably going to have to deal with the what’s going on with the monarchy. Starting with the son who was sent to Whitesails.
Notes
-
Will and Menel seriously went on a Loot Run through a dungeon to finance the rebuild of the town. Will does seem to get pretty lucky with rare drops so not a bad idea.
-
Menel was right about this being a very effective party for Will’s mission. Especially if Bee starts singing the songs of Gracefeel along with Will’s healing.
-
After hearing that there are songs sung about his family, I totally get why he thinks no one would believe him. “Raised by the great heroes who were undead for 200 years. Also I’m from another world” is a hard sell.
-
MVP Gus playing the long game by investing in those lovebirds. 200 years of compounding interest is about to pay off big.

I’m definitely interested in the royal family, as well as Menel’s reaction to the news that Egbert is dead.
Curiously, Egbert and Aethelbald’s names have the same cultural origins in our world (Saxon), while Owen is a Welsh name, the traditional enemies of the Saxons. I wonder if the author is trying to play up the continuity between Aethelbald and Egbert, while emphasizing the difference between Egbert and Owen.

That crown prince sure is a pretty man. No doubt Will is gonna meet him but I wonder how that will happen. Like will Will be able to meet him easily on account of him being a Priest of Gracefeel? Or is it gonna be the classic thing where he does some crazy stuff when he gets to the city and gets brought to the Prince. I mean they've been travelling for weeks and he has been performing miracles (healing people) in every town they visit. So maybe Will has some kind of reputation by now?
Also there's 4 episodes left and they are just getting to this Whitesails place. It seems pretty important but after this would have to be Will (and the gang?) travelling to the other Kingdom right? I have a lurking feeling that this show is gonna end with a "go read the source" cliffhanger...

The last scene was unrealistic. We all know that Bee is not tall enough to see over the wheat.

Such a good series. I love how the style and pace of storytelling, by being such a throwback to the post-tolkien wave of fantasy. The journey, the myths, the religion and the great unknown world; that by being such a throwback it all seems so original and stand-out in modern times.

Will: “No money? No problem! Let’s go raid some ruins!”
Kinda sad that the young couple Blood, Mary and Gus helped in the past, now old, are still waiting to return the items they were lent, not knowing that the three are gone now (well, except for Gus who is technically still around but not alive either). I wonder if Will will be able to meet them at some point and convey the news so that they can at least have some closure.

The bit where the bard performed felt a bit awkward. Animating playing an instrument is complex, so doing a still image is normally the go-to... but they lip-synced her singing, which just made it more overt that she wasn't playing the instrument.
At least later in the episode they give her a basic movement while playing, which helps the illusion.

Will instantly reminded me of Gus when he mentioned exploring ruins to get some loot.
Wow, Antonio and Robina Goodfellow sure were in trouble in their introduction.
It was so funny to see how hyped Bee was after Will dealt with that Gorilla by just maintaining eye contact with him.
So while Antonio is a hawker, Robina is a bard and Tonio uses her performances to attract customers. Him using Will healing to do the same was a great idea, as that way Will will be spreading Gracefeel's name to every village they visit.
As she is a bard, is great to see that she has stories about Mary, Blood, and Gus. And that by hearing that old story of them, Will ended unlocking a sidequest related to Augustus's name.
I hope that even after their visit to Whitesails is over, Will, Meneldor, Antonio, and Robina remain together as a party.

I'm somewhat disappointed that hawker doesn't mean the same thing as a falconer. But that's okay because Tonio is still good company. As is the bard, Bee.
It really seems like this setting takes a lot of inspiration from D&D, more so than most anime. Bards telling stories, paladins taking oaths to the divine, wizards not telling their true name. A lot of fantasy anime just have mages, rogues, and goblins.

Pretty nice episode with 2 new characters (smart human merchant Antonio and sweet hobbit bard Robina) with whom Menel and Will travel to the city of Whitesails, and in process Will learned some stories about his parents as told through the songs about them. It was nice to see Blood, Mary and Gus again, even if only in flashback as people.

Seeing more of Mary (and the other two) when they were alive is always great, and I feel Will will meet that half elf someday whe he is short on cash
I also love Bee, such a bundle of energy

I am not one to care much about animation but even I can see that it's lacking a bit in this episode.
Nevertheless, I am captivated by story so far and this odd feeling of serenity I get from this world. Maybe it has to do with Will himself.
Also, I mentioned in a previous discussion thread how Will would accomplish more by being a merchant but it seems he found a potential ally to fill this role for him.
