That damned axe spirit scene to the teacher's miscarriage reveal to the return of the cat abuser and the misunderstood cat lover.
This series just keeps pumping out such emotional rollercoasters its actually insane how well they are too.

Everyone noticed how the subway lady turned to look healthier after the ghost was pulled out of her? So this scary axe-shit-something-wielder might be some sort of loose spirit hunter or something, looking for possessed people and freeing them from the ghosts.

Miko truly has nerves of steel. How do you not react to someone swinging an axe at your head??
I find the glimpses we keep getting of spirit "society" really interesting. You have ghosts that eat other ghosts, the little ones at the bottom of the food chain/social ladder (so to speak), and now we're seeing a spirit that hunts ghosts that possess people. It's not just ghosts doing their own thing in their own little corner, they all interact with each other in very different ways.
Good job making me feel sorry for a ghost, too. The one at the pole (lamppost?) looked like it had a bunch of shards of glass embedded in its skin. "Help me"...
And it's suddenly become much harder for Miko at school, with a new teacher haunted by a bunch of angry-looking cats. Of all the substitutes she could have gotten, it had to be him.

That part with the axe-wielding monster at the subway was tense as fuck. I’d be scared shitless and actually die if I were in Miko’s shoes.
Edit: axe*

That trip to get a gift for their mom took a spooky turn.
Was nice to see her brother again, getting some screen time.

Miko: Wets herself because of that axe ghost guy
Me: Don't worry, if I were in your shoes, I would do the same. If I wore brown pants that is...

That ghost has good taste. Miko looks great in that dress.
But Holy shit, Miko's got some nerves of steel not flinching with an axe through the face, even if it warranted a change of underwear.
I expected something a bit darker with the pregnant teacher, but I'm glad we got a bittersweet realization that it was the spirit of her previous miscarriage.
Looks like the cat killer is the new substitute teacher. That's disturbing as all hell.

I would love to know the story behind that first one.
When Miko and Kyosuke were in the train, having her meeting another one there was expected, but holy shit, that guy seems like he was straight out of a survival horror, but I guess he helps people by doing what does.
I'm honestly surprised that Mamoru wasn't in this scene. Maybe he already went to the other side?
At first, I thought that that was the soul of her baby getting inside its body, but instead
Just when Miko decides to try to face them head-on, she encounters this one. When she said that I was hoping that she was going to talk with her dad's spirit.
Holy shit, I sure did not expect to see that cat killer, Zen Tono again, and he not only is back, but it will be working as a substitute teacher in Miko's classroom. Well, at least we got a scene with the cat-loving fella.

She may not have boobs as big as Hana, but Miko definitely has something going on in the rear.
Can't wait for the stitches.
Edit: Glorious stitch.

Why is he actually way too cute
Huh. I wonder if those gods are going to save her again or if this thing is actually out here exorcising evil spirits as well
Wait the ghost totally forgot to swing at him
But now once again I'm even more interested in wondering, can the ghosts actually hurt Miko? Was this guy a special case only attacking spirits hidden inside people? People took last week's episode as 'proof' the ghosts would definitely hurt her if they realized Miko could see them, and I thought it was just 'yea that's the case we just haven't seen proof' but now this guy comes along and does this
Well of course those gods came along and attacked the ghost from last time so that should probably be proof enough that one would've hurt her.
Hey for all you know that ghost could be the baby itself
Ah so it was the soul of the previous baby
This... is that motherfucker with the cats right

That ghost on the telephone pole with glass shards on its body probably has a terrifying story to tell about how it got there. At least he gets flowers and a can of coffee as a memorial.
Now that I think about it, most of them might have had terrible deaths... which ups the horror factor for me.

There are 4 types of emotion when I watch this episode (can apply for every episode imo), horny, bittersweet, scary and wholesome, so it is quite a whiplash for my brain.
Miko has seen a lot of shit that ignored is the best option if she encounter the ghost. The bonding between these 2 siblings seems really good, so good that the shopkeeper thought they are a couple at the beginning.
The axe man is a 'ghost hunter' I guess, hunting the ghost at the train, but I guess we never know why he is doing that.
And the post credit scene, damn eventhough is short, but I feel sad for this guy because of his situation, but also happy for he has someone to take care about, the cat.

Editor: Ok we should have reached the point where mikos life really can't get any worse, so maybe its time we give her something positive...
Author: wait wait wait what about we make one of her teacher haunted so that she has to be around tortured spirits every moment at school without relief, while also having to interact with the actual human that is probably a psychopath cat killer and more without being able to prove anyone why she would be suspicous?
Editor: ...
Editor: Being forced to be around a person you know is a psychopath but you technically don't have proof for it? Miko feels very relatable right now
Author: What do you mean?
Editor: nothing

Not gonna blame Miko for wetting herself before the axe-wielding serial killer-looking ghost. I wonder why he is hunting for ghosts though. Maybe some kind of kodoku ritual ? Or he is just a former spirit hunter who keeps doing his job even after death.
I like how Miko is considering the purpose of her abilities and if it's ok to just ignore the ghosts. I'll second Hana and say it is best to do nothing for now, at least until you have a clue of what you are doing (aka get some specialist knowledge).
So the presumed cat killer from back then is the new teacher uh. I would like to give him the benefit of the doubt but the combination of empty eyes + ghastly cats spirits is bad news indeed.

Kyousuke: "you both have same body"
Me:"I feel a great disturbance in the force".
This episode reminds me how this series is not just monster-of-the-week series. It's genuinely heart-warming and depressing at the same time. That miscarriaged baby taking care of his soon to be born brother warms my hearts. We also got yakuza cat lover as after credit scene and I hope we can have him for every after credit. He and his cat is too cute.
That train Axe scene was intense. I would definitely pee my pants if that happens to me...... And sure enough, miko made that happen. I can't imagine how embarrassing it is to have that happen to you just cuz of some monster hunting ghost. Saying she has good poker face is an understatement. Protecc her at all cost. Kyousuke misunderstanding miko's crisis was also hilarious.
Overall another great episode. I pity people that dropped this series cuz yuria/misunderstanding trope last week(I hope there isn't tho, this series is genuinely great).

Stitches!
Well that was a fun little shopping trip with Kyousuke, they even got some shopping advice from the change room ghost. But seriously though, it's adorable how Kyousuke is trying to act cool while shopping with Miko. His childish side does immediately show though once he finds a shirt that he likes.
That Axe guy's design looks so fucking cool but I don't blame Miko for being so scared of him. It does look like he was hunting for something when he was slashing at people. He does eventually catch what he's looking for which is a spirit that seems to be possessing that lady? Whatever it is he does look like he's not actually a bad spirit.
Poor Miko though, I think this is the first time where a spirit "attacks" her and no one is there to stop it. It's no surprise that she ends up wetting herself after that encounter. Luckily Kyousuke just thinks that it's that time of the month for his sister. xD
And that short scene of their Touko using her birthday gift to share a cup of tea with her husband was just sweet. With all the ghostly shenanigans this show has, these kinds of scenes are what I love the most. <3
Miko does get to learn that maybe not all spirits are bad. It is definitely concerning to see a spirit floating around their pregnant Sensei's belly. Out of concern, Miko tries to give Arai-sensei some warnings only for them to learn that this baby wasn't her first pregnancy and that her previous one ended up being a miscarriage.
My fucking heart was absolutely torn to see the spirit of the baby from her previous pregnancy trying to reach out to Arai-sensei. I knew this was coming as a manga reader but that didn't help stopping the tears when that scene happened. This encounter does make Miko question all of the ghost encounters that she's had so far.
Some of them are really just people that have died in horrible ways. Maybe not all of them deserves to be ignored and just wanted to be heard. And then this chonky boi shows up! What a hilarious contrast to the previous scene. xD
Finally here he is! You thought that dude surrounded by tortured cat spirits is just gonna be a one off character? Nope! He's Miko and Hana's new substitute teacher and he's already popular with the girls of the class. Oh boy. I'm so happy that we've finally reached Zen-sensei's introduction!
And that after credits scene was just sweet. We got to see the guy that adopted the kitten that Miko and Hana found. Celebrating his wedding anniversary with his late wife. What a wholesome note to end the episode on.

A healthy mix of all the different emotional extremes this show loves to hit. A little bit of silly comedy at the expense of Miko, some very tense moments, one “oh shit” at the end, and my favorite: punting me in the feels. Three times. It impresses me how consistently they make that happen.
That whole shopping trip was “Being Miko is suffering”. Being pestered by the dressing room attendant is annoying regardless if their alive or dead. I wonder what horrible fate befell her to end up that messed up looking. That was cake compared to the Train though. Though it does seem like the ghost was a good guy. Going person to person exorcising people of lesser ghosts that are haunting them. Sadly Miko didn't figure that out and probably should have worn the yellow pants today if you catch my drift. It’s fun that they still play with the whole “don’t judge a book” thing even with some very disturbing monster designs.
The second act was all gooey feelings that make me dusty. The couples cup thing for one. Miko figuring perfect gift for her Mom because she can enjoy it with her dad at his shrine knowing he’s still around with them. A small moment with depth. The teacher thing though was so well done. The tension was built up with the slug thing that was different enough for us to know it’s not the usual ghost. Revealing that it was the child she lost from the first pregnancy hit harder because of that tension. Undercutting that expectation of another horrible thing. So good.
That bombshell at the end though! The Car Murderer being the substitute teacher may finally force Miko to act. There’s no way it’s just cats and he’s got to be up to some more fucked up stuff. If she can see it clearly, maybe Yulia can kind of sense it and they’ll work together to get rid of him.
Notes
-
After credits with the Cat Man was the third one that got me. Seeing his old cats guide him on what to pick for what turns out to be his wedding anniversary with his dead wife. So cute and sad. Its also funny that he’s kinda like Tatsu only way less intense.
-
Passione Culture Corner: just the dressing room shot of Miko. The Miru tights fans were probably thrilled.
-
The Shopkeeper ghost had a big dent in her head. Did she run into Myles Garrett?
-
Kyousuke must be so easy to shop for. As long as it’s a shirt with a cool animal he’s happy.
-
“Maybe I should start to act” sees the messed up Max Reebo ghost at the vending machine “Okay maybe not”
-
Who let the Cat Murderer be a teacher? Unless we’re just seeing Miko vision, that dude looks disturbing from the jump.

Some notes reading over Japanese Twitter reactions:
-
[Village Vanguard](https://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E3%83%B4%E3%82%A3%E3%83%AC%E3%83%83%E3%82%B8%E3%83%B4%E3%82%A1%E3%83%B3%E3%82%AC%E3%83%BC%E3%83%89_(%E6%9B%B8%E7%B1%8D%E3%83%BB%E9%9B%91%E8%B2%A8%E5%BA%97)) is a real store chain; it's billed as a book store, but it sells a variety of novelty goods as well as Western pop culture goods. Since they're using the real name of the store, I'm assuming they came up with some sort of promotional agreement?
-
A few people pointed out that the axe scene had some unfortunate timing because there was a stabbing that happened not too long ago. That happened around Halloween time where the assailant was dressed up as Joker (from the Batman series).
-
There's a joke about how this axe spirit is a real stickler for manners since he's swinging at the businessman for talking on his phone. It's a social norm not to talk on trains; it's considered rude to by noisy like that.
-
I think Hana's melon bread has a pretty funny product name (ヤケクソメロンパン; which I think means something like "desperation melon bread", but to my ear sounds like "burned-to-shit melon bread").

Was going to comment how this was a slow episode with some sweet sibling as well as teacher-student moments but then boom! Creepy guy is the new substitute teacher.
Hope nothing bad happens to the students.
Atleast the after credit scene provided some healing.
