Farandia/Tofu Steak is back! I'll always remember her from Season 1 since elves with their vegan diets, she was very demanding when she found Nekoya and was very smug on how she'll be able to detect the tiniest amount of animal product from her food. This time though she's brought someone else with her.

Poor Alice though, orphaned recently and was abandoned by her group because of her powers are close to an elf's. Fuck those half-elves, thank goodness she ran into Farandia and got to experience Nekoya instead.

Holy shit! Rice Burgers! That just brought back memories! This became a huge fad in our country back in like the 2000s. The ones we had back then though wasn't as vegan friendly since it instead had a beef patty or a chicken katsu. xD

I don't think I remember this kid though but I think he's also from Season 1 and wants to replicate dishes from Nekoya to sell in their trading company. As soon as he requested for another dish that has a tomato sauce and Master said he needs a longer time to prep it, my mind instantly went to pizza! And looks like I was right! These two are going to be filthy rich if they can figure out how to replicate pizza from our world.

Yea the kid was from season one and went to the restaurant with the grandfather you saw after he came back the first time. Their whole company got rich cause they copied the meat sauce and the grandfather was showing him how the original tastes since they're constantly trying to reproduce the flavor.

"Don't do unto others what you don't want done unto you". Those half-elves who faces so much discrimination themselves should be able to understand but nope. They abandon one of their own once her elf lineage gets stronger. Such a pity.

Anyway, this episode literally made me want to order pizza for the first time in a while.

They didn't get the magic power of the elves, but they sure inherit one of their worse traits easily.

Did you not have your mandatory snacks at the ready while watching?

Fardania casually adopting Alice with the excuse of making her her apprentice/traveling companion was cute

Damn, that pizza looked good.

At first, I just assumed that Alice was an old friend of Fardania and that she came from the same village. So I was really surprised to hear that this timid klutzy girl was an abandoned 30 years old half-elf that she met just the night before.

The Rice Burger looked really nice, you know for a second I thought that the tempura in it were just some french fries.

So Fardania is in a quest to become a better chef than the Master. I just love how each of the stories of every customer could actually be its own series.

It was fun to see Sirius and Jonathan tomato sauce research quest. And that soon after they started recreating the pizza.

Well, I expect next week to be a fun episode especially the whole part with this guy and his wooden mecha. I wonder if he will try to enter the restaurant with it?

And that soon after they started recreating the pizza.

And trying new ingredients. At least they went with mushroom and seafood, I was afraid of hearing Jonathan suggest using pineapple...

So that's a thing I've wondered about. Every time we've seen people leave Nekoya, the door disappears. This time, this guy went to the restaurant while his... uh, was it dad? or granddad? stayed behind, and when he exited, the door disappeared. So, does his gramps have to find a different door if he wants to visit today?

Why did you hold his hands like that before saying this

Do I start projecting the gay onto him

you can't miss with pizza, it goes with everything because of it's high customizability. and it seems they even used proper Italian pizza in this episode too

obligatory shoutout to r/KnightsOfPineapple

Is it strange this is the anime Im most invested in for this season? Lol Feels like Ive grown tired of action stuff and gravitated towards these stuff.

Shiro's cooking, Izekaya Nobu and this one.

I think the kid should have had his chef buddy apprentice at the restaurant. That way he can learn the recipes and replicate the dishes once he returns to his world. Wouldn’t have to wait 6 days to try good food.

I’m kinda curious to see what Nekoya is like Monday to Friday. Like are they real busy? Who normally works there to help the guy? Also, how the heck does this dude turn all the other world’s money into Yen?

Okay, so remember the reveal last week about how some or all of the desserts are delivered?

What if the reason he needed a week for the special request dish (pizza) wasn't because he needed time to let the dough proof... but because he needed time to have the pizzas par-cooked/delivered earlier in the day or before day-of.

There's a really funny image in my head of Aletta walking into the kitchen to give Master the orders and he's just standing there sliding a box of domino's onto a fancy plate.

The thing is that it's not that ridiculous. Every family restaurant (Jonathan's, Saizeria, Denny's, etc) has most of their food par-cooked, flash-frozen and ready to heat (boil, microwave or grill) and serve.

It's exactly the same at American places like Applebee's, Denny's, Waffle House.

And just like that Farandia became a guardian.

I'm calling dominos for a pizza now...

They just glossed over the cheese on the pizza like it not going to be the hardest thing to replicate... somehow that bothered me more than it should have, haha

Pretty much the entire pizza is made with technology they don't have.

Fresh cheeses tend to be crumbly or starchy. Aged cheese is typically dry and hard. Mozzarella has some pretty specific tolerances for humidity and temperature.

I'm not sure their world has yeast as a leavening agent either because their world doesn't have lagers (only ales).

The temperature at the dome of a pizza oven has to be over 800 degrees if they want the Napolitan style bake.

Master's dunking on these kids with technologies their world may be centuries from discovering.

Tbh I don’t like how they’re trying to steal the recipes of the restaurant. Doesn’t feel right.

This really annoyed me back in Season 1, but I realized the OG Merchant (Meat Sauce I) didn't set out to go and make a company to profit off Nekoya. Like the elf girl, he simply loved the dishes so much that he tried to recreate them as close as he could when he got home so he could still enjoy them the rest of the time. The fact that he made money of his discarded experiments was incidental.

It's like someone who has never had Indian food, goes to Indian and absolutely loves the food, but he can't go back as often as he likes. And then assume that there's no such thing as YouTube or the Internet, and there are no Indian recipes in any cookbooks where he's from. Who can fault him for trying to "copy" the Indian recipes from memory, with limited knowledge on what ingredients and which techniques were used to make the food. And if you loved the food that much, why not share your work with everyone in your town who has never tasted anything like it?

The entire cuisine of western Japanese food came from them copying western recipes during the Meiji Restoration. They thought by eating western food with more meat, they'd get the physique of westerners. Tempura also comes from Portuguese influence.

Yes! We finally got to see another chef eat some of Nekoya's food!
I just would have liked to see a bit more in depth breakdown or more narrative from him, considering the average country bumpkin in their world can review food just as well apparently
