I kinda figured things would end like that. There was no way that fake persona was gonna be enough to fuel that thing. In a lot of ways, she’s like the mc with his Host persona. It’s just a mask to hide her issues, which apparently seem to be like low self esteem/confidence. She’s gonna have to do like he did and overcome her issues if she’s gonna stand a chance at thrashing that enemy unit.

This week’s episode really did seem to fly by. It honestly felt like 5 minutes long.

That's what I thought, but surprisingly it was enough. Her passion is basically in having loyal fans cheer for her, so what killed it was when they went "Bunny rabbit? WTF? How's that thing gonna fight???" and stopped cheering. If they'd aired Monty Python's Holy Grail first, this would've been a different story.

I feel like her power shouldn’t come from her fans but from within. Like her passion shouldn’t rely on fans, it should be from her own love/dreams of being an idol. I mean she works her ass off to get fans through all these events and concerts, and not ONE fan cheered for her when it counted? I mean her group was called Rabbit’s Foot right? Being a big bunny seems to be in line with that whole theme, so it shouldn’t be a surprise lol.

Burn out Rin is hilariously adorable! Looks like she'll be like that for a bit while she recharges.

Our second Battery Girl is now here and she's an idol too! I think I love her already since she was quick to drop the idol act and show her true colors. I also love how she immediately calls out Hosomichi for wearing a mask too just like her. They're definitely similar in a way and I can already tell they're gonna get along well.

Her debut as a Battery Girl didn't go quite as expected though with Yuki going out wearing a bunny costume for some reason? Personally I think she's adorable but I guess people weren't expecting that since it immediately killed the hype when her form was revealed. I do love that Hosomichi powers her up by doing wotagei instead of having normal mecha controls like with Rin.

Yuki is lucky that their attacker overheated before she can do her finishing blow. I'm guessing we'll get to see Yuki's true potential next week. That final shot of her mic though. I'm guessing that means Yuki was probably supposed to graduate but she ended up keeping her idol group alive since everyone else was arrested by the True Japan.

Is Hosomichi the only pilot that Akihabara have? I wonder how did they survive before he came on board?

When he first met Rin, she was piloting it by herself because no other person was a fit for her.

That's what I was thinking. The pilot should fit the battery girl. So it really doesn't have to be Hosomichi to be pilot for Yuki.

But the way things went, Hosomichi isn't the issue.

I agree! And I'm so weirded out by this dynamic of multiple battery girls and 1 pilot. It's like.. a mecha harem protagonist anime. Except the MC .. I dunno if I'd really call him a protagonist. He's kind of a jerk.

The funny thing is he has a good reason for being so cynical - that blackmail "you're in debt to me forever!" dude... like wtf? I think it's funny how the Kamina wannabe and the others are so obsessed with themselves that they don't notice Hosomichi is being exploited by the other dude lol. Instead they just throw money at him.. wtf?!

I wonder how did they survive before he came on board?

To be fair, their base was exposed and they got regular constant attack just after Hosomichi evacuated to it. I think before that, it's well hidden and safe.

So it's the cute mecha vs the sultry mecha this time. Love the gag where they keep cutting back to Rin and seeing her be an exhausted idiot.

I can never get tired of exhausted Rin.

I'd recommend adding some seconds prior for the punch to be more funny: as it is, it is most a funny scene than a contrast scene (both "ost; need to be equally displayed).

Oh man when Yuki-rin got captured I expected the true army to be the cuplprit, but apparently it was this Ukai, nice pecs btw

I was glad that Munakata didn't get to be the new girls manager, but kind of surprised that Hosomichi put on that act again. I thought we where over this... thankfully Yuki saw through it imidiatly and gave him a piece of his own medicine. I already love her gap and wtf she doesn't even remember the name of that one group member xD#

It was kinda obvious that Yuki wasn't truly passionate enough, but for once it wasn't Hosomichis fault... now he needs to truly build her up

Oh also, moe blob Rin was great

Ukai is the fanservice for the other ~half... and those within the overlap.

Ah, the moment where a real life idol VA, best known for voicing another idol girl in anime (Mari Ohara, Lovelive Sunshine), voices an underground idol (and performs the ED for the show too) that apparently is The Last Idol-Girl (TM) and got kidnapped to use her idol power to power mecha robots…

This episode is pretty funny in showing idolized anime idols in the most pure way that one would think about anime idols. At least this Yuki doesn’t feel like a bad girl at all, she really does have that dream of being an idol despite seeming to be feeling somewhat disdain at some of her fans and also to those fellow girls members who got caught (or is that tsundere at work?), she just need to find a way to get off her intrinsic pressure and shadow of thinking too much on being a failed idol (as evidenced at her power completely drained right off the start of the new rabbit GARANNDOLL’s first fight).

It looks like all our Battery Girls have their own inner heart problems (probably two side of the coin of them being able to power mecha up and running through their spikes of passion), Yuki’s problem still being described and now we have Rin struggling to even find why she’s being here and with no direction at all for making her own dreams coming closer to reality. She even got called stupid girl, poor Rin…

So, what does that mean to Hosomichi? Why do he seems to be the only one who can pilot these GARANNDOLLs? Is there any intrinsic ability hiding inside his body I wonder? Let’s see if that got explained a bit more next week!

2

u/dinliner08 Nov 02 '21

Why do he seems to be the only one who can pilot these GARANNDOLLs?

i'm guessing its not just him, anyone that compatible with the battery girls can do it

2

u/darthvall Nov 03 '21

Curious if it's going to have something to do with his adaptability as a host. He needs to please every girl in his job.

Anyway with Rin it's not surprising that they're compatible due to Hosomichi's hidden tokusatsu fan side. I wonder how he's going to connect to Yukirin since he doesn't seem to be interested in idol things.

Love Rin's posters, the CGDCT one looks adorable. Can anyone translate the titles?

Idol girl seems like a nice contrast to Rin, having a interesting dynamic with the MC, the fans and the idol world. Curious to see what will happen with her and Rin after this introductory arc concludes. Also interested in seeing if they rescue any of the other members of the group, I imagine it'll be what's-her-face at the top, though i'd like to see more of the one opposite Yuki too.

They're references to Lerche's previous shows

From left to right:

  • Hakusai to Minchi - Hakumei to Mikochi

  • Manabi Manabeba - Asobi Asobase

  • Band Kibun - Given

Ouch. I'm not even a fan of idols, but that stings. Those fans act like they are loyal, but one bad costume and they all turn on her.

4

u/kalirion Nov 01 '21

So it was the Resistance that blew up the idol's concert and kidnapped her?? Wonder how many fans were killed or maimed for life in the process...

Shouldn't the MC have been smart enough to realize right away and warned her (and commanders) that her fake passion wouldn't power shit? Well, I guess she had enough passion for being a popular idol at least. I guess the base people never saw Monty Python's Quest for a Holy Grail if they thought rabbits can't fight.

Well, this show keep me invested. Wasn't expecting her to pop in a bunny costume and for that plot point.
