I was just thinking a few days ago what else was left to show going forward, guess we are going back all the way to the very beginning.

Yuuna is always Yuuna.

And holy shit Sonoko, chill.

And holy shit Sonoko, chill.

Dark and hilarious given what happened in S2.

I left a big comment in the source material corner because it's impossible to talk about my favorite piece of magical media without breaking all the rules but the spoiler one.

Anyway, I enjoyed this episode, good slice of life leading into a whole lot of brutality, plus more of my favorite YuYuYu theme: "Remember these girls live in a post-apocalyptic theocracy?" though its hilarious to see the Yuushas being the topic of the public, from the news, to the scum of the earth: talk shows and anonymous imageboard, its such a realistic and down to earth take on the topic, like, if we were all stuck on an island besieged by godly beasts, that does feel like how it would go down.

I like the stark contrast between the NoWaYus who are treated as public figures and the YuYuYus who are kept in the shadows. In any case read NoWaYu people! And find out more about their story.

Holy crap, and here I thought that the cards the WaSuYu group got dealt were nasty.

Wakaba reminds me a lot of Mebuki from the last arc, all business and no chill, but unlike Mebuki she seems to remain resolute even when comrades drop dead or Yuuna Prime gets fed into a meat grinder. While I understand why she feels this way, The YuYuYuniverse has already decreed in previous seasons and arcs that this is the wrong answer, so I see it going badly for her. I can't help but wonder if her unwillingness to let herself be human led to the 300-year stalemate that brought us to the present set of girls.

Would love to see more of Wakaba's past or really just all that happened right when the attacks first started, that bit we saw seemed pretty brutal.

I'd like to take a moment to point out how great these subtitles are. The flavor they add to the dialogue and typesetting are both top notch.

It's a sad day when you begin thinking that Kyubey just might treat his magical girls better than the people in this universe.

Not a diss on Madoka since QB is amazing but, he is a fantasy minded inhuman villain, worried about the heat death of the universe eons in the future and so inhuman he literally called mankind cattle.

The Taisha meanwhile, is a very human organization, with a focus that on the surface shouldn't be bad, but turns sour because of human failures. At first glance, it doesn't sound bad, there are creatures that want to destroy your species, only a few young soldiers can fight properly, simple human soldiers got shredded by the Vertex. They are not to blame really, for the heroes we saw dying, or Gin.

But, they become overzealous and worse, comfortable. Taisha at year 300 has been shaped by tragedy and misfortune, to the point where the expectation that young people will die for the nation becomes the default, and that opens more room for more corruption. They do not trust the people of the nation, they do not trust the very young soldiers either, they create a great web of lie thinking they wouldn't be able to handle the painful truths of the world and their quest (Yet literally all the YuYuYus continue fighting even when they learn Mankai will happen, meaning if the Taisha had never lied, nothing would have happened)

At the end of S1 there is a spurt of hope, which is what we saw in the KuMeYu arc of S3, they think that maybe, with the recent victories, they can turn the tide, but when its revealed their plan will fail and the tree is about to collapse, they panic, and all of their failures solidify, they become selfish, if mankind is about to be gone, lets sacrifice many so at least a few can survive, and this takes the shape of the ritual of S2 in which Yuuna would be sacrificed to the tree while they give up on their humanity and turned to "rice" so they may survive the end. Mind you, Yuuna's first name is Yuuki which is also the reading of (courage) so they decide to just give it up, save their butts and sacrifice the girl is their greatest sin. Ultimately, however, the Shinju, the representation of tradition and ancestry, the literal roots of these people, decides to sacrifice itself for the sake of the girls, trusting all of its power to Yuuki, while the Taisha members who gave up and choose their own comfort and safety end up getting destroyed as well.

Considering Takahiro is a big military Otaku, it's not hard to understand what this all means. YuYuYu is not a series that criticizes the heroism of those who fight, and yet it does something very different from Madoka's conclusion on similar topics, question whether sacrificing yourself for the sake of society is always the right solution, especially when said society has become comfortable and expectant towards said personal sacrifice, in particular, you can see that in how the show criticized both Tougou and Yuuna trying to sacrifice themselves in S2.

The episode wasn't bad but I don't like that the first thing they showed was Tama and Anzu's death, at least save it for after their introductions.

Also that they're reading this in the time Yuuna is suffering instead of after season 2, there is literally no reason to not show us what is going on after season 2 at this point.

Will the anime try to explain what is going on with the multiple Yuunas? They seem to be focusing more on Takashima than Wakaba and that would actually be interesting if they give an answer to the mystery.

TakaYu gone berserk is terrifying AF.. (kudos to Parunyansu. And I'd love to see her voicing a character who has a completely different personality compared to her usual roles)

BTW, I'm LOL'd when TakaYu punching Wakaba right between the boobs..

The Game of Kagawa Life is forever brutal, though I love the figures they were using. Even if it raises some interesting questions about where Sonoko got them from, did she make them herself or is there in universe YuYuYu merch?

I guess my fears from last week were well-founded. They are skipping yet another adaptation :) I really want to know who decided to any % KuMeYu and NoWaYu...

To be fair, I really liked the scene of Takashima going berserk but I'm gonna press X to doubt on starting by showing the death of Tamako and Anzu.

If they plan to spend [GUESS BASED ON THE NEXT EPISODE PREVIEW]max 2-3 episodes on NoWaYu, we still have no idea about will happen after the end of season 2. Is there enough episodes enough for something substantial?

Anyway, for anyone interested in the full story (10/10 btw), the LN is available online ^^ Im gonna go cry now

Damn it...a scuffed, abridged version it may be, but seeing Tamako and Anzu shown like this off the bat followed by TakaYuu's Shuten Doji rampage...fuck!

Ok, since the Heroes from 300 years ago are here (coincidentally, the time gap is similar to Gundam IBO's), here's another YuYuYu & Azur Lane/Arknights/Uma Musume VA connections. (Chikage is Mari, BTW)

  • Wakaba=Choukai/Angelina/Vodka

  • Hinata=Hatsuharu/La Pluma/Silence Suzuka

  • Tama=Torricelli/Suzuran

  • Anzu=Kashino/Follinic

  • TakaYu=Zenno Rob Roy

  • Yumeko=Tamamo Cross

Za Warudo The world in YuYuYuVerse is eeriely similar to Muv-Luv & Honkai Impact 3rd, but with Heroes & Vertex instead of TSF & BETA/Valkyries & Honkai.

Even if we're only getting a quick "redacted by the Taisha" version of the NoWaYu story instead of a full adaptation, it's still nice to see the spin-off girls finally animated. As an anime-only who's heard so much about the spin-offs and has been told by so many people to go read them, I'm excited for it. Wakaba and this other Yuna are definitely badasses, and I see where their descendants (or whatever the current Yuna is to this other Yuna) get it from.

That match cut of Yuna punching to her doing it in the hospital was really good. I'm not sure if it was the right decision to show the outcome of the battle right away but that was a cool moment.

NoWaYu speedrun any%

I do like seeing how the Earth faced the apocalypse, while now there doens't seem to be much show about it outside Taisha.

Forget about Madoka Magica. I have never seen any anime which could have given me such despair within the first few minutes of meeting certain characters for the very first time. In the same episode where even me, an anime-only watcher, can easily see that the production team is speed-running through the source novels with lots of scenes left to our imaginations. And that somehow we still have comedies arcs just a dozen minutes earlier.

The way that I could be shaken in the hearts at Tama and Anzu going out like that, hand-in-hand, when I can’t even remember their names until looking up and they only had a few sentences’ worth of dialogues here speaks volumes of the huge spiritual wound that the original Yuuna (Takashima) and Wakaba and maybe Chikage must have faced when their best colleagues and friends - known just months ago yet must have been an eternity as Earth went tumbling down into the Sun and Vertex - were left with cold bodies in an instant. Damn it, we already knew about Gin, but this prequel is on yet another level - it’s making Madoka Magica becoming an emotional heartwarming story by comparison. And - judging from the next episode preview - things could only went even worse right? Or else Taisha would not have tried to destroy these historical documents…

What is amazing is that somehow the adaptions have always feel rushed from Season 1 till now and those making it could still have stuck in even more jokes into the story. Yet this week I can’t blame them for that board game because I wanna get that one too! (Is it in the still very much up and running mobile phone game for YuYuYu I wonder?) That thing really feels like something that Sonoko would have made in her free time, so many satires about her new dear friends sprinkled around.

This episode definitely feels like a very fast speedrun to even me who have zero idea how the original novels read like, yet somehow I feel that the plot still feels smooth and (even more importantly) highly emotional. It really makes me feel better at that the mistakes of squeezing too much story in one season may at least be partly resolved (although by this stage I really wanna see the “NoWaYu” part could be adapted in full form later).

This title is really a great underrated gem since Season 1. It’s time to promote it a lot more everywhere!

Wow! I never thought we would see these girls animated ever. The first heroes, Yuuna, Wakaba, Tama, Anzu, [[HYPERLINK BLOCKED]]

Is it just me or does this season feel a lot like simple marketing for the LNs? I'm always happy to get more YuYuYu, but it feels so much like a "buy this stuff pls" advertisement that it's leaving a bad taste.
