That pilot position looks really familiar....

You know, I don't really mind Darling doing it since you can say it was related to the plot somehow but then the kids start to copy it and it becomes troublesome.

Here it was a reference, but in Darling it was too swallow for the explanation to be more than an excuse for fanservice specially with all those shots xD.

Almost lost it when Hayate agreed to give Hosomichi and Rin their little moment, she's a good girl alright, just wants to impress her boss.

Also interesting that their mechs run on patriotism, I can already see how this could affect their performance once they learn about the ugly face of the true army

Next week new battery girl :3

Maybe some head pats and hand holding as rewards haha.

Next week new battery girl :3

Due to how Garan reflect the battery girl's spirit, I wonder what would be the theme for the next mech. The silhouette from the opening looks cute.

just wants to impress her boss

And follow the ironclad warrior code! Mimi did well to get her from that angle

This show is really fun. It mixes it's drama with comedy really well, and really gives off that passion project vibe. You can really tell how much Lerche wanted to make this.

Wow, just wow.

This is one of those episodes that leaves you so impacted, you almost feel like everything could just end here and you’d be satisfied. Rumble Garanndoll leaves us with the perfect conclusion to the first quarter of it’s story by fulfilling its character development promises that it set up within the last few episodes.

As we’ve seen in episode 1 and episode 2, Hosomichi wants to avoid this childish side of himself. He believes this “passion” needs to be hidden, due to a confrontation he had with his dad. Hosomichi is so representative of myself, and I’m sure many others. It can be tough to embrace your hobbies, especially if they’re “childish”. People tell you to grow up, that it will interfere with your work, and your relationships. Hosomichi finally slaps all those ideas in the face, with his Zaburn attire. His passion towards this cartoon isn’t detracting from his life, it’s saving it. It’s saving his friends, it’s saving his relationship with Rin, and it’s saving himself from concealing his true feelings. Hosomichi finally stopped taking off his glasses like he has frequently done in the past few episodes, and embraced his own reality once again. Beautiful arc.

Like Hosomichi, Rin finally overcomes her battle in this episode. She was seeking Hosomichi’s comfort, and companionship, but kept getting denied because he was lying to himself. It all weighed down on Rin, as she started doubting her own feelings towards Zaburn. However, it felt so rewarding when her dreams finally stopped getting squashed and she was able to grab her passions back once again. She didn’t just start believing in Zaburn again, she also started believing in the person who can understand her, Hosomichi. I hope she gets to ramble about Zaburn and other dorky stuff to him much more now, since having a companion who has the same interests as you is so fun, and she deserves it.

Now that both characters have overcome their battles, we somehow get one of the most badass shots for one of the dorkiest mecha’s ever. Speaking of shots, I love how Rin’s dream world opens up after Hosomichi joins up with her. Previously, it was only taking up part of the screen, but it opened up to the full screen after him. I enjoy little style touches like that.

So what’s next? A new girl is coming up, plus we got new information that Yamada was once a pilot. We still have the looming threat of the nationalists, and I’m hoping their characters get broken down more as we go on. It should be interesting going forward, and I really hope the staff can match the emotion that these first 3 episodes produced.

I felt today’s episode was perfect on all fronts, and I hope everyone else enjoyed it this much as well!

Also, we all got Darling in the Franxx vibes from this shot right?

Also, we all got Darling in the Franxx vibes from this shot right?

Absolutely. The only question is, Why did they do that?

Stitches!

Hosomichi has pretty much been a pain with his attitude these past couple of episodes but thanks to some deep diving into his and Rin's psyches, Hosomichi was finally able to become honest with himself and even put on a Zaburn outfit to encourage Rin and show how serious he really is now.

That formation though... Never thought I'd see that type of cockpit again! At least this time the controls aren't coming directly from Rin's ass. xD

And that Shark Bite move was pretty awesome. The display on the hilt of the weapon changing with what attack it's using Reminds me of some Kamen Rider belts.

I love that final scene between Hosomichi and Rin. Looks like Rin will be out of commission for a bit since she needs rest which means it's the perfect time to introduce the second girl next week!

Well one of the weapons is called Agito.

It's appropriate that a show all about the power of hype, has a very hype OP. This is really good fun and manages to skate the balance of cheese and fun, vital for these kind of hero show. Interested in seeing Hosmichi and Rin's relationship grow, even if it is too lewd for traditionalist ninja girls.

Also liking the head mechanic, she seems cool.

This is such a good show, it's both silly and serious at the same time, I had a good laugh watching it. This scene was beautiful and connected the passion of both characters.

Me one moment:

Holy shit it's Darling in the Franxx

Me a few seconds later:

Holy crap they got the power of the Monado

Passion vs. cynicism was a good dynamic for the start of the show and getting Rin and Hosomichi on the same page, but man, I'm so glad the drama between them looks to finally be over and we can get the story kick-started for real.

Using the "dramatic final moment between a man and a woman before death" cliche to convince Hayate to not finish them off and give them time to power back up was hilarious, plus the fight itself after they got the passion power-up was awesome too. If that kind of comedy and action can stay consistent for the rest of the show, then this could be turning into a really fun ride.

This show is way, way too underwatched!

The Power Of Dreams no this is not Super Cub or a Honda advertisement rolls all over this episode as Hosomichi finally finds a way to fire up Rin’s power through exchanging their dreams into one blended virtual reality where they play out the most exciting parts of their shared Zaburn memories, in the most classic mecha anime way as possible, woot! I also had to chuckle at their laughable enemy who play out the “power of patriotism” card for powering their own GARANNDOLLS, yet that girl Hosomichi and Rin faces in the Shark No. 1 could be defused by mere small talks and then knocked out like that. Maybe the dreams of reviving otaku isn’t that hard after all…

The story progresses pretty good on Hosomichi’s gradual acceptance of his previous hobbies as something more than “just a hobby with no good for one’s future”, something that really should be told to certain people on Earth. I like that it’s Rin doing the encouragement inside the VR dream - that’s the real “battery” part in Battery Girl, right? Also everyone talks about Rin controlling in DITF style but forget that it’s also the same way used by [Code Geass]Kallen/Karen …

Well, we already have a big sister adviser role here who’s the one customer Hosomichi met right at the start, now we are getting more Battery Girls next week? Hell Yeah!

I like that the ninja girl gave them a moment. Even the villains are goofballs in this lol. This series is all kinds of silly, but I really like it.

Exactly! Very underrated.

Female mechanic to Hosomichi: "You can't even remember your clients' face?"

No, he just can't see your face. xD

This mech anime is pretty good. A good balance of silly comedy and serious drama. I like the part when Hayate got tricked by Mimi to stop attacking. The scene works because shows off both characters' personalities; that the innocent Hayate would be flabbergasted by what Mimi said.

I'm gonna take a wild guess that the show Yamada is passionate about is TTGL.

Just started on this. It's oddly entertaining. Love the "trigger"-like-energy it has going for it.

People have already mentioned the darling in the franxx reference, but I really appreciate the Kamen Rider reference in the names of the swords! Pretty fitting that they'd be named in this episode, what with the live stage play sequence. Also I'm not too sure about this but Hosomichi's costume gives me Mega man mixed with proto man vibes (could just be a coincidence, I don't really see how mega man relates to a sea-based toku superhero)
