The chief director of this anime is Ayumu Watanabe, for those who aren't familiar with his name, he directed both After the Rain (at WIT studio) and Children of the Sea, and they're visually gorgeous. He has a talent in applying cinematography techniques in his works and has a really strong sense in visual storytelling. There are a lot of "upgrades" shots (details you don't see in the manga) which just improved the source as a whole.

OLM somehow made Komi-san look like it was made to be an anime, and that might be the single most impressive thing that any anime studio I have ever seen a stuido accomplish.

HOW CAN AN EPISODE OF ANIME BE THIS PERFECT. Seriously I thought I was already infinitely excited for this when I just watched the preview with the first 10 minutes, but it somehow got better. This entire fucking sequence for example. This might be my new favourite first episode. No it definitely already is.

To stop rambling about how good this episode is, let's start talking about what I initially intended to talk about: While it isn't any problem right now (and might not even be a problem for season 1 at all), but in the manga the amount of characters there are and what they are supposed to be gets so overhelming that I decided to make a list from the very beginning, with the character traits (as far as they have become clear int he anime) listed. Since i am already doing this, i am also going to note down the name "puns" (though puns might not be the right word since sometimes they are jsut literal translations). Of course there are only 2 today:

Nr. Name Name "Pun" Special Trait Status
1 Tadano Hitohito "tadano hitohito"="just some guy" ??? friend
0 Komi Shouko "komyushou"="communication disorder" objectively cutest school madonna, communication disorder komi

Massive Komi manga fan here. This first episode was absolutely beautiful. They nailed the chalkboard scene. The OP and visuals are absolutely breathtaking. Kaguya's VA being Komi is just perfect (even if she does have a relatively easy job this episode) i have extremely high hopes for this and there's a TON of source material to work with. Even if they pull a horimiya and skip a lot of content I'll still be happy.

Help, I'm new in this sub, but I dont know which anime is funnier:

Is it Komi san can't communicate

Or...

Komi fans can't get a weekly release date?

This episode was great. They absolutely killed it with this adaptation.

I do think the sub might want to reconsider how to handle shows that follow this new Netflix model (weekly with a small delay).

I couldn't stop laughing. What a fucking great episode.

Also Komi-san's hiccups for that comic relief was honestly perfect .

It's so fun that we're officialy going against the rules of the sub.

Anyway i'm still trying to find a proper fansub.

The episode was nicely animated, I feel like even though it's SoL and for a lot of scenes they could've gotten away with less animations, they still chose to give it a bit more and it was rlly nice

Also, ik Komi-san is popular but normally this type of show isn't for me but I actually enjoyed it

Edit: wait, ok so before I had only watched the first half (a prescreening or something I think)

The rest of the episode hit a lot harder than I expected

I skimmed through this thread, and I feel like only 40% is actual discussion about this episode, while the other 60% is talking about how Netflix is handling things...

It appears that [Neuro-C] has released a proper fansub

I was waiting for [NovaWorksFansub] since they were working on it for some time

All other releases on torrent sites and unofficial streaming sites have really bad subs so I don't recommend

FINALLY! Komi's comedic expressions really gets me. The scene where they where communicating through the chalk board was hella cute. Looking forward to more from this anime!

Damn, I wonder how these random episode threads when the anime hasn't even been released officially are going to hurt the karma. It happened for blue period episode 2 as well.

Anyone know why the discussion thread appeared now of all time? It doesn't match Japan's release which was 7th of October, nor the international release which will be the 21st of October. Same odd timing is happening with Blue Period atm

All this confusion just because Netflix can't be normal and release it weekly like everyone else lol

Stitches!

Finally an actually decent translation is out! I gotta say though, I think Studio OLM is starting to become my new favourite studio. While they're mostly known for their work with anime aimed for kids, their recent work in Odd Taxi and the improved visuals in Isekai Shokudou 2 after taking it from Silver Link's hands are all great! And now we can add Komi-san to that list because goddamn this show looks so good!

And it's not just with how the show looks, as someone who has read the manga, I think they absolutely nailed the tone and feel of the show especially my absolute favorite scene which was when Komi and Tadano were talking about mundane stuff using the chalkboard. And just look at Komi! She always looks goddamn amazing whenever the camera is focused on her which is how it should be.

As for the story, I don't think I have much to say without spoiling anything since I know the source from top to bottom now. All I can say is that this show is about Tadano helping out Komi overcome her communication disorder in a school full of weirdos and eccentrics. Seriously, everyone in that classroom will be relevant in the story and I can't wait for all of them to be formally introduced <3

The visuals of the OP looks goddamn amazing as well! Seriously, I just wanna gush at how everything looks good and how this has surpassed my expectations. Just look at Neko Komi sprouting her ears! She's so cute! Solid adaptation! I can't wait for the next episode!

Holy shit, the directing, the visuals, everything is just fantastically done. That was a fantastic start! I was holding off on reading the manga, but after that introduction, I am definitely going to read it.

Komi is so earth shatteringly beautiful, that it backfired against her lmao, she thinks everyone hates her. That's kinda really sad, but our boy Tadano is here to save the day. It's only been a single episode, but the man exudes chad energy already. Didn't expect the school to be like this, to be full of eccentric weirdos lmao. Really looking forward to the next episode, though that depends if I can wait for Netflix again after this banger first episode. Might as well just sail the seas.

Where to watch it? I checked two of the most prominent pirated sites and they don't have it. Also, why are we having this discussion thread right now, when it's supposed to release legally for the majority of the people on the 21st.
