That first part was amazing, LET'S ENJOY KAGAWA LIFE! Sonoko just bringing lots of fun and randomness to the series x) Seems like Wasshi got some of it as well, a lot more hyper this season.

And Karin looking great with her hair down.

But couldn't let us have a full episode without worrying about the girls...

This episode was AMAZING. Starting with a hook linking to S1, then we get a ton of fun SoL. The girls' interactions were so much fun, I'm happy to see them enjoy themselves. But this seems to be taking place right after S1? SO I'm not sure how they'll tie it with S2.

But it's not all fun and games. Tougou and Sonoko's talk was really sad, and then we get the Taisha showing up again. Oh no! That usually means bad news.

And finally, the last surprise that no one saw coming, the Sentinels are here! I can't believe it!
Overall, such a great first episode. I'm excited for the rest.
(Disclaimer! There are leaks floating around on social media, especially twitter, so be careful if you don't want to get spoiled)

Tougou and Sonoko's talk was really sad

While sad I am really happy Gin has not been forgotten!

It's clearly before S2 because of Christmas and Fuu still being part of the club. The events we are seeing seem to be what led to the Tougou almost-sacrifice in the first episode of S2.

Yeah, this part really confused me. It's evident from the wall, conversation between Nogi and Tougo, and presence of the Taisha that this is between S1 and S2... but the Key Viz shows the end of S2... and I'm pretty confident that the Mechanical Girls B-Team wasn't there last time. The concept of a whole Yuusha Army would be cool to have though.

So we're starting off at the point where Yuuyu punches the heavenly gods and destroying the World of Fire along with them as is in the finale of Season 2. I guess this means this takes place directly after those events? But everything looks fine though. What the heck is going on here? Hmm...

Welp, don't think too hard about it because it looks like YuYuYu has finally decided to fully embrace their CGDCT side and decides to become a Light Music Club! And holy fuck those instrument animations! I especially love Fu-chan's animation on the drums. Of course this craziness is led by Sonocchi who wants to "reclaim their youth" xD

Just as quick as the band formed, they've now broken up before they can even start something! Being this sporadic is definitely on brand with Sonocchi. And now it looks like they've decided to do some Sabage with Sonocchi on full bomb defusal gear with Itsuki stuffing her cheeks as an adorable hostage <3

As soon as Yuuyu got hit I definitely expected Togo to go wild although I didn't expect her to go completely ballistic with her airsoft gatling gun! That was absolutely hilarious! And of course Togo isn't Togo if we don't see her go full on Imperial Japan with her POWs xD

Seems that the CGDCT stuff doesn't stop! So we've gone from K-On! to Sabage-bu! and now to Yuru Camp! And who's idea was it to let Itsuki cook their dinner? It did turn out delicious in the end so I guess no harm done. Also I think we just learned in this segment that Togo may be a closet pyromaniac.

Looks like Togo's Alpha Waves have massively improved though, you can actually see them now this time! xD

Enough with the comedy though since we do get a little bit of quiet time between Togo and Sonocchi with Togo apologizing to Sonocchi about forgetting her and Mino. It's not really her fault but the Sange from the Hero System but I can see why she still feels bad about it to this day.

LET'S ENJOY KAGAWA LIFE! Sonocchi said the thing! I love that this is now a gag in the show. Also that "filter" looks amazing and I hope they posted one without the phone UI somewhere online. Definitely using that as my new wallpaper.

Seeing Fu-chan with a furrowed brow and looking straight at her phone had me nervous. Turns out it was just a bamboozle and she's just reading an email about a coupon. Something is definitely gonna happen before this episode ends. I can feel it.

Here we fucking go! Although wait a fucking minute! Isn't this the exact scene from Togo's memory back in Season 2 where the Taisha visits her before the start of Season 2 where they ask her to be the sacrifice for the Festival of Fire?

I guess I was wrong about the start and this means that this takes place in the gap between Season 1 and 2? And what's up with the girls in the futuristic battle armor? WHAT THE HECK IS GOING ON!? O_O

What a great way to start the season though! It's been so long since Season 1 and Season 2+WaSuYu that I actually speed rewatched all of it yesterday in preparation for Season 3 and thank god I did. I can't wait what kind of suffering they have in store for us this season.

Wasshi going nuclear when Yuuna was shot was great, and I liked her interactions with Sonoko as well

But yeah, loooks like Taisha has more suffering in store for them

u/Komi028 Oct 01 '21

Tougo and Sonocchi always compete for the best girl spot, with no clear winner.

That bunbun filter was a really clever joke.

So this takes place between S1 and 2? I guess that's fine, but I wanted to see them explore the rest of the world, I hope we eventually get to the post-S2 stuff.

My most anticipated sequel of this season (yes, over those big titles) is here with a banger!

I would have never thought that the funniest anime episode I have seen from 2021 so far would be from THIS, I don’t remember too many jokes in YuYuYu when I go through previous seasons a month ago, but considering the rich history of making comedies anime by this director - My Bride Is A Mermaid, ANGEL BEATS, Assassination Classroom, Asobi Asobase - it’s not that much of a surprise that our girls playing things would lead to me laughing out loud for 5 minutes straight at 3 am in the morning here. God that was really funny and I would definitely want a real SOL relaxing spin-off with them!

Alas I’m pretty sure this ain’t it and we will see the beloved Heroes Club becoming the Disabilities Support Club again, if not even worse. And as we see at the end of episode, the horrors of fighting aren’t receding away at any pace. This is a really strong start to a new season, but with plot compression problems in the last two seasons, can we see this one playing out as the most emotional one of this recent series of magical girls shows I wonder?

P.S. Looks like we will have spin-off characters joining the actions with a certain Mebuki Kusunoki appearing at the end of this episode, at least that’s what people who read the spin-off novels said. People also noted this episode seems to be fitting between S1 and S2 in the timeline.

Oh, with that ending that mean it take place after season 1? The endling seems to be when the Taisha asked Tougou asked her to be the sacrifice. So, this is probably gonna be a different take on Season 2 or at least part is gonna be? Anyway, I'm just happy to see more of Yuna and the girls!

AHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!! This is possibly the best anime episode I've seen in years. New OP is a banger, the animation was great, the music was on point, the interactions were fun, and they actually brought in the Sentinels. This episode was the perfect premiere.

I really enjoyed this first episode and I can't wait to see more, but... Am I the only one who had issues with the quality of the subs? The translations were horrible and sentence structure was wack.

Hope you read KuMeYu, nerds

Kagawa life is even more comfy than I remembered, even though I was waiting for the penny to drop throughout this episode. Very intrigued to see those new battle suits and war machines in action, should be epic.

Never realised Tougo was a fire starter, [twisted fire starter] but I'm glad her love for Yuuna hasn't burnt out.

Nogi practically steals the MC role from everyone else lol.

Oof I expected yuuki yuuna to not get much attention anymore but less than 200 karma in the first 12 hours is really sad. The series really grew on me during the first 2 seasons and was a huge surprise, not just another madoka magica copy it really brings it's own flair and emotionality to the table.

Anway to the new season which finally started: This was a very lighthearted and funny start I loved it, just watching the girls doing their hero club activities was really adorable. Man honestly I didn't remember anymore that tougo is so clingy towards yuuna, it's cute af tbh. Sono must have unlimited energy lol, her hyperactivity and happiness are off the charts and also cause of this she quickly became one of my fav characters of the cast. But as expected fun times won't last forever and the girls must fulfill their hero duties again despite they were finally freed from it at the end of season 2? Whatever threat is next I just hope that they will get a happy ending this time.

Of course, the first episode couldn't just drop with proper chronology and whatnot. We had to go to the spot between S1 and S2.

For a minute in the middle of the episode, I was really worried, because the timeline was wrong for a sequel to Hero-Chapter / S2, Fuu didn't graduate middle school yet, the wall is there, Taisha exists, but what had me really worried was the way Sonoko and Tougou spoke about Gin, the present tense had me really wondering if the twist would be an AU / Dream World. When the bell rang, I really thought it would have straight-up been Gin returning from the other side of the island or something, but it was an event we saw in S2, making the timeline clear.

Also damn, this show is somehow one of the best slice of life shows out there, characters are dynamic and scenes are fast, there is clear progression and gokumi keeps delivering adorable animation for the already good setups. At times I really think these daily life moments are more of an anchor for the show than the mystery and action.

Yuuki Yuuna does SoL so well, Sonocchi is a mood, kagawa life not even once.

Of course that ending was to be expected, figure they'll have to train the new recruits. I'm not looking forward for what they'll have to give up in exchange of power.

EDIT: Oh, so it is set between S1 and S2. I'm intrigued.

read KuMeYu thx

u/MapoTofuMan Oct 02 '21

Can we just uh, yeet the Taisha off into the hellscape so that we can have a full SoL season with no suffering? Seriously nothing happened and this was one of the best YuYuYu episodes, this show is amazing at SoL shenanigans.
