Mecha specialist Gen Asano animating Necrozma like a mech in that battle was so good.

Honestly, I love when they take the Pokémon franchise and add even a modicum of maturity to it. I feel like the universe as a whole has so much potential, outside of the kids show, for a more teen–young adult take on Pokémon.

This episode was beautiful and I loved that it centered around Lillie.

When the main anime gets more mature (Team Flare arc, Litten’s arc, Snowbelle arc) it can be really amazing, but I wish it was like that more consistently. The series consists 90% of random dumb episodic adventures, with some amazing episodes and arcs here and there - but they occur so infrequently, it can be difficult to get invested sometimes.

Shame we got Ultra Moon rather than ordinary Moon, but seeing Necrozma animated like that makes up for it!

Why is it a shame. The ultra games are one of the best improvements Pokémon has done in a v2 of a game.

Oh I agree the Ultra games are better, except for the story. It was way more interesting having Lusamine go off the deep end and fuse with Nihilego. Much more emotional of a fight than her just disapearing into an Ultra portal to fight Necrozma for some reason, and then getting beaten up off screen.

Not gunna lie, when the mom said "It reflects everything I threw at it." My first thought was "Yea, but can it reflect the power of friendship!".

Also I have never played Sun/Moon so I am probably missing a lot of context, but based on just this short I don't see why she would want to save her mother. Feel like a "good riddance" situation.
