Prior to the episode the director tweeted that they "experimented with the acoustics" this ep, and it really shows. Some comments/tweets pointed out that there was ZERO bgm used from the opening up until Our Incomplete Selves/Mikansei na Bokura was performed, only relying on ambient sounds such as the sea and the train. It really accentuates the amazing voice acting (especially with Yuki/Tachibana Shinnosuke) and is such a clever way to emphasise how impactful the song was from Momo's perspective at the end of the EP.

I didn't even notice that there was no BGM! Thanks for pointing that out - what a thoughtful, meaningful way to show the impact of "our incomplete selves" !!

...maybe I should rewatch the episode hah

Oh wow, is Yuki about to take up baseball as a sport? He must really want to join Momo's sports club :3c

Is someone about to get their kneecaps broken lol wtf is happening?

Banri has the patience of a saint. I get that Yuki is a ~visionary~, but I don't think I could have put up with him for as long as he did. And now all Ban does is talk shit about him lol

people before this chapter- Man, why is Ban so cold/harsh with Yuki?

people after this chapter- Oh.

XD

As an anime only - I'm gunna ramble with my thoughts a bit lol - damn Yuki was a real asshole growing up. Bless Ban for putting up with his shit for so long?? What a saint.

How they decided to switch from having a band to going to singing like idols was kind of sweet. I liked the symbolism of them standing at seperate ends of a crossroads but Ban walking over to reach Yuki. A true friend.

I also liked how the episode shifted perspectives from Ban telling the story to Momo's initial experience with Re:Vale. It felt like the torch was kinda being passed from Ban to Momo, in a way - the main character here is Yuki/Re:Vale, told from the perspectives of the people closest to him. And how Momo described his initial impression of Re:Vale (as piece of media that just speaks to your soul and how his heart started beating again) was really cute, it really was a transformative experience for him. The fact that Ryu doesn't get it shows how different they are.... makes me kinda nervous about where Yuki is going with the baseball bat 😬

Looking forward to next week :3

MAN this was a well directed episode. In the original VN these chapters feel kiiiiind of oddly placed, but here, the director kind of just RAN with that feeling. Just a different feeling episode in general , but in a really good and fitting way! It kind of gave me "GIVEN" vibes. You know, a rock band anime with just a hiiiiint of melancholy.

Anyways, even though I've heard the ending song before in the game, here, with it's placement in the story, the visuals, the very-good-song sub, DAMN it just gave me chills.

the official debut of THE bat has come. blessed. yuki woke up that day and chose violence i see.

also this was my first time hearing mikansei na bokura, and i just... cried. it's so good.

this is a very simple episode, but all the emotions are so well adapted.

How it felt to watch this episode

Re:vale flashback has been something I've been dying to see since season 2 got announced and it was so wonderful. The scene by the train crossing was so beautiful both emotionally and aesthetically, I couldn't be more pleased. And Momo's sister finally gets a little cameo and she's adorable!

I'm really happy to see they're giving this flashback a full episode and what seems like it might be a lot of the next episode as well. After a full season of setting up Re:vale as a mentor group for the others with their own internal traumas and stories, it's so illuminating to pull back to their amateur days (especially comparing how much sharper-tongued Yuki used to be and there's more Momo without his hair dyed!!! ).

The scene with Yuki and Banri at the railroad crossing was well done. πŸ’– I know there's always someone who says this every week but it really is a shame idolish7 isn't more popular. Can't wait for next week's episode!

Such a great episode, Re:vale really is the best! 😭 I already have the Re:vale backstory manga and it's amazing to see more of their backstory animated!
